Kreyling Korner – Week #5 – 05-22-14
THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK
After my initial peruse of the match-ups in Week #5, I couldn’t help but notice some obvious Lipsmackers. Joe “CJ” Cook vs. the Big Donkey – CJ has only won once and tied once in the duos 6 meetings; Pete “Goldie” Goldenberg has dominated yours truly (aka the Glossy One) winning all 3 of our career match-ups; Ollie and Melissa “Golf Angel” Cember have met four times and each have 2 victories.
But a deeper look into the match-ups reveals something more. Matt “Barry Gibb” McLinn vs. Joe (I always forget his nickname) Carrier square off tonight in their fourth career meeting. So far Carrier has the upper hand at 2-1. Tonight this match means more than golf. Tonight this match represents a battle of facial hair. Both Matt and Joe sport the best facial hair in the league, which make all of us who partake in Movember extremely jealous. I can only dream of the day my hair would grow dark over my upper lip and I could adorn goatees as fitting as these gentlemen. Does the winner of tonight’s match also take the crown for the best beard? I leave that up to debate for the GCCGL.
Side note – the picture above is of a golfer named Andres Gonzalez. He looks both awesome and ridiculous. He’s bounced around on the PGA tour over the last few years without much success. Andres is better known for regularly tweeting Tiger Woods hoping to someday receive a response. Just recently Andres shaved his hair and donated it to Locks of Love in memory of his father who passed away from pancreatic cancer. The fu manchu is still in effect.
THE KREYLING KORNER
I’m going to try something new this week – we are going to associate historical golf quotes with members of the GCCGL. I’m calling this new topic “Golf Quote Association” – almost as creative as the Kreyling Korner. Let’s begin…shall we?
Quote Association #1

This is an easy one – Cletus. His swing is hideous (see reverse pivot), he walks a little hunched over like a cave man, and although I’ve never met one, I have to believe cave men communicated better than Allen.

This one is a little more difficult, but I have to go with Goldie. Anyone who has played with Pete when his golf game is a bit off understands. Case in point, Cousin Joe had his phone on the ready last week in an attempt to capture a Goldie “melt-down.”
