Kreyling Korner – Week #10 – July 16, 2020

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

Really busy week this week dudes, so only hitting a MOW in week 10.  Ethridge comes through in week 9 to make my STONECOLD lock of the year come to fruition.  He put the beat down on PW winning 7.5 to 2.5.  I’m going to pause here a second to talk directly to the early season 2020 MVP.  Swiper, you have gotten better at golf!  Congrats!  I’m proud of you.  You’ve taken lessons, played a ton of golf and are flat out kicking ass in the league.  I do have one suggestion for you, however.  Mark your ball.  You’re good now swiper and you need to know what ball you hit off the tee.  As I’ve said before on this blog, marking your ball eliminates the “I’m not sure what I hit” when looking for balls in the weeds.  If you see a unique marking, a la Cupcake’s signature middle finger, any doubt on what ball you are hitting is eliminated.  Also – marking your ball is tour sauce.

While I’m on a rant, I think we are getting a little lax on the rules in US Open week.  We put this event into play to make it hard, that’s the idea.  I personally witnessed balls being swiped up into a player’s hand on the 18th green when short gimme putts were missed.  What’s done is done, so I’m not suggesting adding penalties or anything like that.  Hell, I don’t think it even mattered in the matches.  However, the spirit of US Open week is to play by the strictest of rules and hole ALL putts.  That’s what makes it fun – being nervous over a 1-footer for a 9.

Rant over.  Overall MOW is 3-4.

Week 10 MOW – Joe “Boot Boy” Eiser vs.  Pete “Goldie” Goldenberg – I’m not going to lie to the readers of Kreying Korner, me picking this match-up is purely for personal reasons.  In last week’s Kreyling Korner I asked Goldie to be a member of the roundtable.  In that roundtable Pete wrote the following when asked to pick the best performer in US Open week: “my vote goes to none other than Kurt Kreyling, for no other reason other than to just jinx him.”  Well guess what, it worked.  I played like crap and Pete killed me.  Pete comes into week 10 with an overall record of 4-1-2 and is averaging 5.6 points a match.  He sits in 4th place on the points leaderboard and tied for 3rd in winning percentage.  Joe Eiser comes into this week 10 having a season that is a little off from what the league is used to.  His overall record is 3-3-1 and he is averaging 4.8 points a match.  This is not a bad record by any stretch of the imagination, just not what we are used to with Boot Boy.  Does a big win in week 10 send Joe on a huge win streak for the back half of 2020?

GLOSSY PREDICTION –Overall these two are 3-3-2, nice and even since they first squared off in 2010.  I’d love to really analyze this match, each man’s current form and how the impact of Joe getting 4 strokes will affect the outcome.  Nope – I’m not going to do that.  Pete is going to win.  No doubt in my mind.  Pete wins!  In fact, if I didn’t waste my STONECOLD lock of the year last week, I’d use it this week.  How you like them apples Pete? Pete wins 8-2.

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
