Kreyling Korner – Week 11 – 06-28-18

THE LIP-SMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

Pink ball scramble week – NO MOW in week 11!  Tune in next week when I continue to apply the MOW jinx.

THE KREYLING KORNER

This week’s Kreyling Korner has no theme.  We are going to treat this week like a simple blog update…which transitions perfectly into topic 1.

Let’s start this week by discussing the founder of the GCCGL – George Almeida.  The Portuguese (stupid word) Warrior has ONE job to do!  ONE! JOB!  That job is to provide the GCCGL with a weekly update.  Have we had one in 2 weeks?  NOOOOOOOO.  This also feels like the appropriate time to share one of George’s favorite quotes – “I never miss a blog two weeks in a row.”  ERRONEOUS ON ALL ACCOUNTS!  We get it George, you and your IT buddies are so busy hanging out in your offices (or better known as closets) beating 16 year old kids across the world in Fortnite.  Those closets are accessible only by an ID badge, what else would they be doing in there?  PW is on vacation this week so we will be at 3 weeks without an update.  Geez George, put a freaking tablet in those cargo shorts and get the weekly update done.

Speaking of cargo shorts and crimes against fashion – did everyone get a look at Andy “Russell” Crowe prior to teeing off last week?  The high last week was 78 degrees – comfortable, but by no means cold.  I’m warming up on the putting green and old Crowe struts on up…in his long sleeve Under Armour shirt.  For real, a long sleeve shirt.  I looked at him and made some sort of smart ass comment like – “you afraid it’s going to snow.”  His response, “Shut-up Kreyling, don’t you know Under Armour makes cool gear in long sleeves.  You need to get with the advancements in athletic wear.”  Fast forward a few hours later when Crowe is walking off the 18th green.  Low and behold, the long sleeve shirt was gone.  I casually asked him why he took it off, Russell’s response “It was to hot.”

There was another funny story from week 10 that I’m not sure everyone heard (see paragraph 1 and the founder of the GCCGL not doing his job…ONE!  JOB!).  Urbano Galindo – needs a nickname – did not show up to play in week 10.  Apparently Urbano didn’t want to play in the rain.  In fact, I believe his actual quote was “it’s going to lightning so I’m not playing.” HA!  Newbies!  Let’s go over a few things as it relates to inclement weather and the GCCGL.  First and foremost, we play unless it’s a tornado or a hurricane.  Actually, scratch that – we’ve played in a hurricane.  Last year, the day after the 2017 season, most of the GCCGL made the trek to Batavia to play Stonelick Hills.  As luck would have it, Hurricane Harvey had pushed up from Texas up north and its remnants were directly over Cincinnati.  And.  We.  Played.  True – it was pretty dumb because it was windy, cold, wet and scores suffered tremendously.  Regardless, we soldiered on.  Because that’s what we do!  Countless times we have pulled into the Kenton County parking lot on stormy nights when other leagues are driving away.  In fact, it’s NORMAL to see OUR league hanging around on a 9th green after EVERY OTHER LEAGUE has cancelled.  The guys working in the pro-shop have actually uttered the words “if you guys are stupid enough to start play, you will not get a rain check.”  YUP – we finished the round!

The best part of the “lightning” story from last Thursday, the skies were perfectly clear by the time our league teed off and it ended up being a perfect night.  The only other thing to point out in week 10 is that the scores were historically low for the back nine of the Pioneer.  Cupcake had some stats to support this, but I can’t remember the specifics so I’ll just take his word for it.

I’ll end this week’s Kreyling Korner with this – have you guys had a chance to see the Asian golfer Hosung Choi?  If not, drop what you are doing and google him.  This guy is the most animated golfer EVER.  Think Chi Chi Rodriquez, now multiply it by 100.  He got a lot of pub last week as he was playing in the Korean Open, which offers a spot in the British Open to the winner.  Unfortunately, he came up just short finishing in 5th place.  I hope this guy stays around and ends up playing in some PGA tour events.  He will drive golf purists nuts – and it will be awesome.

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
