Kreyling Korner – Week #1 – 04-23-15

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

The Most Interesting Man in Golf

No particular reason for the picture above.  It just felt right given this is the first night of the 2015 GCCGL Season.  Migel Angel Jimenez simply is…”The most interesting man in golf.”

Tonight is the FLO-RIDA Scramble (see the blog for rules of the Florida Scramble https://gccgl.com/blog/?m=20150423) which means no MOW in the first league event of the season.  However, this doesn’t mean there is a lack of storylines in the first week.  The commissioner’s office has done plenty of prognosticating and one thing we were a little shocked with this week is the “lack of play” to prepare for the 2015 season.  With the exception of a handful of full-time members, a lot of people have indicated they will NOT be touching a club for the first time until tonight!  Injuries also appear to be an early season factor as Sylakowski and Cook had to get subs because of a bad knee and back, respectively.  Add in the weather forecast – cool temperatures with winds anywhere from 20 to 30 MPH – and we could be in for a very interesting opening night.  The glossy prediction – if any team gets to -3, they win this thing running away!

THE KREYLING KORNER

Week 1 - KK

It’s been a long, cold offseason.  We’ve all done things during the winter months to prepare us for the upcoming 2015 GCCGL season.

Some members turned to intense fitness regiments – Troy “Gobstopper” Bachmann looks lean and mean.  He is an early season favorite for league MVP.

Some members updated their equipment.  Melissa “the Golf Angel” Cember purchased a brand new set of golf clubs!  She has also been described as a “sleeper pick” for the current season.  Is she the X-factor that leads Roller and Duer Again to a championship?

Some members reviewed film.  During the winter months, Allen Bloomhuff watched hours and hours of movies.  Ironically, Allen did NOT watch movies of his swing.  He watched “Catch Me If you Can” (the story of Frank Abagnale, Jr – the most notorious fraudster of all time) repeatedly for months straight.  Many believe his obsession with the con-man resulted in questionable scoring techniques – otherwise known as the “cut score-card incident.”

But perhaps the most interesting tale of offseason preparation comes from Jason “Cupcake” Nill.  Cupcake dedicated his offseason to improving the mental side of his game.  He was so dedicated to achieving mental tranquility on the course that he took to the Himalayas.  He wanted to go to Kilimanjaro, but Ollie was busy that day.  Regardless, while hiking through the beautiful mountain range, Jason met a Tibetan monk.  The monk spoke no word but wrote a phrase in the dirt of the Himalayas… “The answer lies within.”  For three days Jason meditated and soul searched in the silence presence of the monk.  He climbed the highest peak in an effort to find peach and clarity…and the answer within.  Finally it hit him – he ran back to the monk and began his diatribe on the lessons of life he had learned.  After 2 minutes of rambling – the monk cut him off: “Grasshopper” he said, “the answer lies within…this bottle of jack.”  Jason and his new Sensei laid up drunk for the rest of the trip.  Needless to say, old cupcake’s winter travels confirmed his approach to golf was the right one all along…just make sure you have enough alcohol.

Whatever you did this offseason, welcome back my friend.  Good luck to everyone!
