2013 – Week 3

What a difference a week makes. We teed off early! That hardly ever happens. Also despite overcast skies for part of the round and some rain, all 24 players finished with plenty of daylight to spare in early May. Thanks to our subs, Dominik, Seiter, Hausfeld and Jordan for filling in. Looks like our little changes has gotten off to a great start. In last week’s blog I made mention of how the Pioneer front was like Oz compared to the Willows back. It did kind of feel like we were at the wonderful Land of Oz this week. Fast play, teeing off early, wishes coming true and nice weather which suddenly turned ugly with tornadic winds (ok, that’s a stretch…).  You could say there was even a Glinda the Good Witch sighting (Golf Angel) and a Munchkin appearance (me). I think those are obvious. I think Bachmann would make a great Cowardly Lion. It gets tougher from here, I’d have to go with McLinn as the Tin Man and Lip-Gloss as the Scarecrow. Don’t ask me why, it just seems to fit. Rounding out this ridiculous contrast is Cletus starring as the Wicked Witch of the West (and doubling for Toto). Finally what might be the most accurate association of all, Jon Hollywood Schemmel as the crafty Wizard. That leaves the rest of this motley crew as the Flying Monkeys. Munchkin is lookin’ pretty good now, huh…

I’d like to officially welcome Kurt Lip-Gloss Kreyling as a new co-commissioner taking over for Big Donkey who hung up his commissioner’s hat after two weeks. Lip-Gloss will be taking over the handicaps and the scheduling. I also think it’s worth mentioning that Cupcake has taken on some more responsibilities, posting up all the statistics, PDF results and handicaps to the GCCGL blog. This saves me quite a bit of time and allows me to concentrate on creating sensational blog material such as the Wizard of Oz bit. Come on, you liked it. Admit it! Thanks Jason.

I’ve decided to resurrect the very popular Bio (Nick Names) section of the blog. For those of you who are GCCGL veterans, you remember this. It was a fictitious bio of all the GCCGL members. It had to be taken down mostly because we might have pushed the envelope to the very outer edge of the table. This is a family oriented site after all. Thus I will be making several revisions working with my fellow co-commissioners over the next several weeks and then post it on the blog in the near future. It will most likely go in the Members Only section which means you’ll need to log in to view it. Those of you who do not have nick names and want to suggest one, or better yet, if someone out there knows of a nick name to tag a member without a current nick name, please email the GCCGL commissioners’ office. The goal is to have nick names and bio’s for all 24 members.

The gallery raised its ugly head again. However, I gotta say, it was the gentlest, quietest and politest gallery I’ve ever witnessed. What gives? Is this crew getting soft? Jake Jordan was the lucky sole to hit over the green this time. JAKE JORDAN. Man, that’s a cool name. Is that made up? It sounds made up. It reminds me of a character from a 1980’s John Hughes film. Please tell me you know who John Hughes is. He’s one of the best movie directors of his generation. Also, check out the two balls side-by-side (Carrier and Golf Angel). What are the odds? Click on the pics for larger view.
Bachmann was hit by an errant tee shot from #18 right in the arm on hole #10! Ouch. When the dude came looking for his ball, he asked the guys in Bachmann’s group if they saw his ball. Someone replied, yea, it hit that tree (pointing to Bachmann) and bounced all the way into the lake on the Par 3.  Let’s see what else……oh……there was a John Rayburn sighting! Unfortunately it was in the GCC hallway on Friday afternoon! See Syndrome, even when your not there, your funny!

Tiagra Woods “limped” into last place after being absolutely humiliated by the odds on favorite to win the 2013 GCCGL Championship, #teamname. They were demoralized (27.5 – 12.5). Yikes Shaggy! That right there is an old fashioned beat down. They were led by Wildcard who grabbed 8 points and lowered his HC by 1 stroke. FPS climbed out of the basement with their victory over SNH (23.5 – 16.5). They were led by Barry Gibb (McLinn) who showed no mercy and scored 8 points. Who’s Your Caddie got into a dog fight with Moore’s Misfits and squeaked by with a win (21 – 19). They were led by none other than Ollie, don’t call me Oliver, Livermore who managed 7 points. After getting shut out last week (not a single win), Big Donkey went undefeated this week in Harris vs The League after shooting a 39! Very impressive. I pity the poor sap who draws him for the Pot Luck.

The schedule has been revised with the new rotation. The winners of the low net were (A/B) Mike Harris and Glen Gustafson with a net (34) and Don Moore also with a net of (34). Congratulations to the winners! We move to the front nine of the Willows the next two weeks. Everyone is doing a great job of getting to the course on time, keep it up. Attention all new substitutes. PLEASE, if you have them, turn in as many golf cards as you can to Lip-Gloss or any commissioner. The more scores you have recorded, the more accurate your HC becomes. I will keep saying this until I’m blue in the face so please, help a brother out.  Finally, we have a feature that is never used that allows subs to enter in their names on the dates that they are available to sub. Just click on the dates that you are available on the schedule calendar and select Yes, I’m available to sub. You must be logged in. Of course you can also use the Shoutbox. We look forward to seeing you on the golf course and as always, hit ’em straight.
