Week 4 Update

[dc]V[/dc]ery sorry for the delayed posting.  I’ll try my best to not make it a habit this season. We had a great night weather-wise and another good turnout but it wasn’t a perfect turnout.  Still, we had 18 of 20 golfers show up.  Nice job.  The front side of the Willows definitely caused some slower play and some higher scores.  All groups finished but it got a little dicey for the last group.  This week’s picture is a tribute to every one’s favorite golf club, Bushwood.  Caddyshack, in my opinion, is one of the funniest movies of all time and certainly the funniest golf related movie. There are times when the antics sometimes found within the GCCGL family reminds me of the Bushwood club.  Can you imagine if we all had caddies?

It was a relatively quiet week with no major on the field happenings.  However a very interesting little tidbit of information was leaked that I felt was worthy of some print and certainly worthy of much more discussion in the coming weeks.  Apparently the GCCGL has become so popular that we have discovered an underground GCCGL Fantasy League operating deep within the GCC organization.  How far have we come?  Several years ago, we were begging people to participate so that we could fullfill the 16 player requirement.  We were recruiting outside the organization, friends of friends, neighbors and God help us…………. even co-ops.  It was a challenge there for a couple of years.  Now look at us, our very own GCCGL Fantasy League.

Apparently there are several folks who participate every week.  They use the stats provided by the GCCGL website to make their picks base on the following criteria:

Low net winner
Match play winner
Harris vs The League

I do not have all the details but I’m hoping the organizers come forward and meet with the GCCGL Commissioner’s office.  We have an open door policy, except for the day after “taco-fajita night” at co-commissioner Cupcake’s house.  In that case, the door stays closed most of the day and for good reason.  We think we have the potential to add an exciting new element to the GCCGL and really have some fun with this.  Just a thought.

As for the golf, The Handi-Capped made a big move taking 24.5 points last Thursday.  They were led by Big Mike Harris who just continues to mow down opponent after opponent.  The Cletard Rollers took 21 points due largely in part to their secret weapon, Melissa.  She grabbed 7.5 points after applying a new strategy that she has decided she will keep to herself.  The rest of the field finished like this, The Heywoods (20.5), Gunga Galunga (18.5) and bringing up the rear were Sphinter Says What (18.5).

We play our first non-match play event of the season this week, a Florida Scramble.  A Florida Scramble is very similar to a conventional scramble with one twist. The twist is that the player whose shot is selected doesn’t get to play the next shot. So in a Florida Scramble with teams of four, all four players tee off, the best shot is selected, then only three players hit their second shots. The best of the second shots is selected – and the player who hit it sits out the third shots; and so on until the ball is holed. Yes this means on the putting green too!  You DO NOT need to use all four drives in this scramble.  Just use the best one of the four every time, even if all 9 drives are from the same person.  The same scramble substitution rules apply.  It should be very interesting.

Point Awards are as follows:
1st Place – 20 pts
2nd Place – 15 pts
3rd Place – 10 pts
4th Place – 05 pts
5th Place – no love

The winners of the low net were Peter Goldenberg (A/B) with a low net of 35 and Melissa Rinesmith (C/D) with a low net of 29! Congratulations! Check out the new poll question. Hope to see you on the course! Good luck!
