Week 5 Update

[dc]W[/dc]e are about 1/4th of the way through the 2011 GCCGL season.  The race for the Championship trophy is started to take shape.  First of all, let me say how proud the commissioner’s office is of everyone staying last week and finishing the round.  After enduring some very heavy rains during the first couple of holes, everyone got back out there and finished the round in what turned out to be a very nice night.  Granted the conditions were just a tad wet.  The course was officially closed after that last thunder storm and I think we were the only league still out there playing.  Gotta love that kind of dedication!  Also, we had perfect attendance again thanks to a last second substitution by Lindsay Maurer (subbing for Syndrome).  I got to the course very late and noticed Lindsay in buying socks and standing in the clubhouse barefooted and commented on how cushy the socks felt.  It looked like the old fellas behind the counter were getting a kick out of the whole thing.  It’s a good thing she only needed socks otherwise I would’ve walked into a very uncomfortable situation.

The Florida scramble turned out to be interesting.  The scores were definately higher than a normal scramble.  I think the weather had something to do with that but also the format added to the higher scores.  The Handi-Capped finished as the winners of the Florida scramble with a very respectable score of 32 (-4) which I think is a great score.  Sphinter Says What climbed out of the cellar with their performance after finishing second with a score of 34 (-2). In both cases, it was a total team effort.  The Heywoods hang onto 2nd place by finishing third coming in Even at 36.  Bringing up the rear were The Cletard Rollers and Gunga Galunga both scoring +1 (37).

Long Drive (A/B) goes to Big Mike while Closest to the Pin (A/B) went to Nick Duer and George Almeida (C/D). Congratulations to all!

On a side note, Goldie was inconspicously absent from the festivities.  As several members were standing in the shelter behind #3 during the thunder storm someone made the comment that Goldenberg wasn’t there this week because he was searching for the gold at the end of the rainbow.  The picture below is proof Goldie WAS there. We go back to match play and move to the dreaded back nine of the Willows for the next two weeks. Check out the new poll question.  Good luck to all. Hope to see you on the course.
