Syndrome’s Shenanigans
Preface (05/16/14)
There are three reasons why we keep Syndrome around. One, he provides an abundance of post round libations; two, he’s always good for a few one liners and plenty of laughs; and three, he continues to be responsible for a majority of blog material.
What is up with this weather? We’ve had close to 30 degree temperature swings three weeks in a row. Cold, hot, really cold…..what’s in store for next week? The weather may have been cold but that didn’t keep the golf league members away. We had 23 of 24 golfers show up. The only reason we didn’t have perfect attendance was because we had a late scratch on Thursday afternoon from one of our subs. All in all, a very good turn out all because of five substitutes braving the weather and filling in. A huge thanks to Seth Brooks, Jeff Rozell, Adam Schott, Mitchell Smith and Mike Bush. I’ve said it time and time again, this league doesn’t work without the major contribution of our substitutes.
In keeping with GCCGL tradition, the first week on the Willows back 9 usually leads to a lot of bad golf, frustration and broken clubs. There were no reports of broken clubs this time but there was plenty of frustration and unfortunately for many of us, a lot of bad golf. There’s something about this back nine that brings the worst out of some of us. Don’t get me wrong, there were several very nice rounds as well. One third of the group scored 45 or lower which on this night, with this weather on that course is a great round in my opinion. Once of the most intriguing matches to me was the battle of two new subs, Adam Schott (subbing for Gustafson) and Mitch Smith (subbing for Meyer). This was a close match with Schott squeaking by over Smith (6-4). Schott posted a score of 45 and Smith 43. As these two finished their round, the gallery was already contemplating nick names for the two GCCGL rookies. Schott escaped this week without a nickname but Smith has already been tagged with one, Prince Albert. Now, the reason for this has to do with his looks. Apparently it would seem that Mitch is a cross between Prince Harry and Prince William. To be very honest, I wouldn’t have been able to pick either one out of a lineup until co-commissioner Cupcake sent me the following picture.
I’m guessing if you are going to be a cross between two people, these two wouldn’t be a bad thing. I don’t have a picture of Mitch (or should I say Prince Albert) for comparison. Once again, no one took pictures last night. I guess I really do have to do everything.
Speaking of pictures, I heard Syndrome created a stir near the first tee. Apparently he didn’t have time to change his shirt before arriving to the golf course so he decides to change in the parking lot. Just as this is happening, Big Donkey turns around and gets an eyeful of Syndrome’s naked upper body. No one deserves this……..no one. As Big Donkey is screaming, others now turn around to see what the fuss is all about and pandemonium ensues. There were members rubbing their eyes raw with dirt, grass, and sand, anything they could find. Cletus stuck his eye balls in the ball washer and was pumping like no one’s business. Co-commissioner Cupcake was pounding extra-long wooden tees into JJ’s eyes and a line quickly formed behind him. I’m just glad I missed this incident especially after what happened to me exactly one year ago on week 4. At any rate, once again no one took a picture. However, because this image of Syndrome is now forever burned in Big Donkey’s brain, we have something almost as good. In lieu of a picture, we had Big Donkey go to the local police station and describe to a professional sketch artist what he had just witnessed. I was another big week of movement in the standings. The big winner this week was Morning Wood who demolished Balls and Dolls (26.5 – 13.5). This is quickly becoming a theme for B&D. MW was led by Justin “Legend” Sieter who grabbed 8.5 points. MW moved to 2nd place with the win. Meanwhile Das Boots are Made for Golfing “kicked” the Putt Pirates around all over the golf course (26 -14). They were led by JJ who won 8.5 points. Das Boots increased their lead and remain in first place. Finally, Carrier to the Hole and Duer defeated Schmuck Dynasty (24-16). They were led by Nick “Potter” Duer who grabbed 8.5 points. Like I stated earlier, there were a lot of high scores this week but these two low net winners weren’t among them. Nick Duer won the (A/B) group low net with a low net of 34 while Justin Seiter (C/D) won the honor with a low net 32. Congratulations to the winners!
