Kreyling Korner – Week 8 – June 6, 2024
THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK
George loses to a senile old man. Need proof on Cletus – read last week’s KK. 2-2 and week 8 brings US OPEN WEEK!!!!
WEEK 8 MOW – Brady “???” Gosney vs. Bill “Patient Zero” Nixon
How does Brady not have a nickname? Seriously – he’s been subbing since 2022 and hasn’t stopped talking since the first day he walked in. Granted this is his first year as a full member, but you can’t tell me Brady hasn’t done or said something since 2022 that has earned him a nickname. I give the GCCGL one task this week – give Brady a nickname.
I love this match-up. Patient Zero is flat out playing dynamite golf this season. 3-0 and averaging 6.5 points a match. In the three matches he has played, he’s averaging a gross score of 38. I witnessed his fine play up close and personal last week when he shot a 36 and whooped me 7-3. On the other side, Gosney is having a solid 2024 with a record of 3-1-1, averaging 5.3 points a match. His average gross score over his 5 matches is 44.
GLOSSY PREDICTION – Brady gets 3 strokes tonight and I do think playing at a longer distance plays in his favor. Based off Bill’s current form though, I can’t see how Gosney pulls off the victory. I’m not sure Bill missed a fairway last week and if that carries over to this week, I do not see any big numbers on Nixon’s card. Nothing against Brady’s game, I just think he’s running into Nixon when he is red hot. I think Patient Zero runs away with it tonight 6.5-3.5.
KREYLING KORNER
US Open Week
As we have stated many times this year, there is a lot of new blood in the GCCGL. Because we have so many new people, I feel it is important to explain some of the back stories related to particular events in the GCCGL. This week is US Open week and it was put on the calendar for one reason and one reason only…to remind all of us, we are NOT that good at golf. This really came about with the insane amount of “fluffing” that occurs in the GCCGL. Yeah I said it – I’m not a fan of “fluffing.”
#don’tbenasty
I can’t tell you how many times over the years I’ve blogged about my disdain for rolling golf balls. Yes, we allow people to roll their ball in the GCCGL. And yes, I’ve made my peace with it and I cheat now like everyone else. See my FINAL post on the topic here. But I’m telling you, rolling your golf ball to the perfect lie saves at least 2 to 3 strokes per round. Anyway, fluffing, the generous amounts of gimmie puts and playing the course at a really long length is why the US Open week was started. Let’s see how good of a golfer you really are if you play by the strictest of rules at the longest lengths.
All that being said – on a night like tonight, pace of play is SUPER important. The scores will be high because we are playing by the strictest rules. However, just because we are playing by strict rules doesn’t mean you cannot be ready to go. I’ve tried setting up tee-times today in a way that pairs veterans with rookies. Vets – try and help the newbies out tonight with the rules AND to keep up with the group in front of you.

Trust me – tonight will be a fun night!
Golf Pet Peeve
Over the years, I’ve highlighted several of my golf pet peeve’s. If you have the time, you can read about them here and here. I’m officially adding another to the list. Look at the picture to the left. This guy is clearly right handed and using a golf mat that is made for both right and left handers. What I mean – both sides of the mat are built to hold plastic tees so you can hit a driver. At Kenton County, there is ONE of these mats. All the other mats are made specifically for right handers with only one side that’s built for a right hander to use the plastic tees. As the resident left hander I feel compelled to tell all of you – if there are multiple mats open….don’t use the ONLY one for left handers. I swear, every damn week I go to warm up and some idiot right hander is using the ONE mat made for left handers when there are like 5 “rightie” mats open. And for those of you who are going to say – LG, just flip the righty mat so it works for a lefty. I’ve done that…a lot. But it’s a pain in the ass and I’m just hitting like 15 balls from a warm-up bucket. How about you right-handed pricks just be considerate?!?!

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
