Kreyling Korner – Week #6 – May, 25, 2023

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

Parvesse was a no show in week 5 so my MOW gets thrown out!   Is this what knocks me off my MOW heater?  If I start heading downhill from here to the end of the 2023 season, I will look back at week 5 and point directly at my bald brother Rich.  Still 3-0!

WEEK 6 MOW – Peter “Goldie” Goldenberg vs. Kurt “Lip-Gloss” Kreyling

I know, I know, I’m breaking my rules here and putting myself in the MOW.  I do have a valid reason for this as we are going to use this week’s MOW as a science experiment.  A science experiment…whatcha talking bout Lip-Gloss? Yes, a science experiment.  Here at Kreyling Korner, I aim to bring the members of the GCCGL exciting content and I’m willing to do it at my (and my team’s) expense.  Sorry Crowe Dawgs, but you boys need to rally this week in the name of…you guessed it…science.  Walk with me here for a moment.  Goldie and I first squared off in 2011 and Pete absolutely destroys me with an overall record of 10-4-2.  Here is the interesting thing, of the 16 times we have played, half of those matches have been played on the Pioneer Back.  Pete’s record in those matches, 6-2.

GLOSSY PREDICTION – Now, I can hear you all saying – What does this matter or have anything to do with science?  You suck Lip-Gloss we get that.  To you I say, touché.  However, this year I am 3-0 using statistics (*cough* science *cough*) and what do the statistics say for Pete and I?  Lifetime, on the back of the Pioneer, Pete shoots and average net 36.6; I shoot an average net 36.2.  By that stat alone, I should have more wins than 2 in those previous 8 matches.  Now, because Pete is so old (he knew 50 cent when he was just a quarter) he naturally has been in the league longer than me.  To account for this, I looked at the average net score since I joined in 2011.  Over that time, Pete’s net score is STILL a 36.6.  By those statistics – SCIENCE!!!!! – I should have more wins.  Which leads me to my pick for the week 6.  Against my better judgment, I’m sticking with the strategy I elected to use for 2023 – statistics.  I can’t believe I’m saying this – Lip-Gloss wins 6-4.  CDM…need you this week.  I just jinxed myself!

KREYLING KORNER

We are bringing back an old Kreyling Korner favorite this week.  A little under two years ago (June 30,2021 to be exact) was the last time we did a GCCGL roundtable.  In week 6 of the 2023 GCCGL season, Allen “Cletus” Bloomhuff, Jeff “Cap” Capannari and Ben “Dahm” Leininger make up a long awaited GCCGL Round Table.

What’s up with the scores in the league this year?  I mean they really suck.  Through week 5, we are averaging 80% of net scores being OVER par (thanks to Cupcake for this stat).  Last week, on the Pioneer front 9, 71% of net scores were over par!

CletusIn my humble opinion, I believe it could be a couple of things….

  1. A) Young Dads that have children in sports that take over Dad’s weekend golf time…
  2. B) Older golfers are trying to find the swing/distance that they once had, but haven’t yet…
  3. C) which is probably the important one…their mind and bodies are not one, meaning that golf is a mental game and that the mind has to be clear from all distractions in their life…..ergo my 2 Advils for the body and the beer to clear the mind.

Cap – I’d actually be surprised if this wasn’t the case.  There are a number of reasons.  One being most of the new members didn’t have scores, so their HC’s were a complete shot in the dark.  They are adjusting every week, but it’s taking time to get them where they should be.  PW hasn’t been here and we can always count on him to shoot his HC or better.  Seniors not shooting from the senior tees. Serkan doesn’t know if he is in SC or KY, golf is the last thing on his mind.  I mean I shot a 50 and took 8 points from him.  Can’t go without mentioning myself, I think last week was the first time I shot better than my HC.  Again multiple reasons; wife, kids, work, traveling for work and golf quickly takes a back seat.  I think it is safe to say my last sentence applies to most in one way or another and is the primary reason.

Dahm – Well it just doesn’t seem like I am hearing the same level of dedication to the great game of golf that we saw in the last couple of years during the “pandemic years”. When there wasn’t much to focus on other than family, work, and golf – and not necessarily in that order. The world has fully opened back up, and the time spent on the coarse and dedicated to improving our game has been traded in person event events without masks, all you can eat buffets, vacations, and any other activated your wives are going to make you do on the weekend now. Gone are the days of nothing to do but play golf and watch Tiger King while you sit in your snuggie eating your chicken parm delivery by UberEats. So put down the drum stick, put on some Purel, tell the kids you can’t make practice, and hit the range slackers. Oh then there’s the turn over from last year, the league effect could really be kicking in.

What is the best GCCGL nickname of all time and why?  This could include current members, previous members and all subs.

CletusGobstopper…..then Bleaker.  They physically match the characters they were named after.

Cap – To be a good nickname, it needs to be used on a regular basis and in place of their real name. I think it has to be Dahm or Meat.  Meat is good, but it is purely based on his name.  I’m going to go with Dahm.  Dahm has truly lived up to this nickname.  I mean just look at the guy.  He has also been know to drive around with garbage bags, duct tape, rope and shovels in his trunk.  As mentioned in my last response, golf is the last thing on Dahm’s mind.

Dahm – I’ll tell you what is the best missed opportunity for a nickname… Re-Pete. Case closed.

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
