Kreyling Korner – Week 6 – May 23, 2024

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

In hindsight, I should have made the match between Cupcake and the Senator my lock of the year.  I knew there was no chance Nill pulled off the W and he did what he has been doing since I joined the league – proving to me he is a loser.  This is the point where Jason’s blood starts boiling and he says stuff like “Loser? I have 6 GCCGL championships and you have 1 LG.  Who is the loser?”  Listen, we both have 1 championship since I joined in 2011…you’re previous 5 are irrelevant.  Obviously no MOW this week!  2-1 heading into the second scramble of the season, Montezuma’s Revenge.

KREYLING KORNER

Most likely…

Unless you live under a rock, you saw the number one golfer in the world, Scottie Sheffler, was arrested Friday morning before his second round at the PGA Championship.  The media has literally said everything that possibly could be said about that situation, so I ask you this.  Who in the GCCGL do you think would most likely be arrested prior to Thursday evening tee time?  My money is on Pete Goldenberg.  Don’t get me wrong – I think of Pete as a fine upstanding citizen and an all-around good dude (with great taste in music).  However, I can also see Pete getting into a conversations with law enforcement over something very trivial that could get out of hand.  Goldie comes from the North East and if someone does or says something stupid, you tell them about it.  I generally like this life approach, but also can see how it could lead to a “big misunderstanding” to quote my boy Scottie.

National Lucky Penny Day

May 23rd is National Lucky Penny Day and I encourage all of you who see a penny laying the ground (heads up of course) to pick it up and put it in your pocket.  I would promote this activity every day, but especially on May 23 – National Lucky Penny Day.  The lucky penny could also serve as a ball marker.  Speaking of which, let’s stop marking a golf ball with tees.  Using an actual flat circular object (like a coin) to mark your ball is similar to marking your ball for easy identification when playing – it’s tour sauce.  Back to the pennies – for those of you who don’t believe in a lucky penny I would ask you to consult my dad, Dr. Pops Lip-Gloss.  Way back when I was a senior in high school (25 years ago for those keeping score at home), my dad picked up a lucky penny in the first round of our regional soccer tournament.  From that point on, my dad would have that lucky penny with him for every game for the rest of the tournament.  Only bad thing, he couldn’t identify which penny was the lucky one so it got mixed in with all the change in his pocket.  Long story short – we had a really good run through the state tournament and made it all the way to the finals.  By the time the final game rolled around, the lucky penny had gotten mixed up with so much change my dad was watching with what felt like 5 pound dumbbells in his pockets.

AI Generated Images

The great thing about this golf league is the amount of content delivered for 20 weeks through the season.  You have line-ups and surveys coming out on Tuesdays, MOWS and Kreyling Korner on Thursday, weekly scoring results on Friday, and then the weekly blog wrap-up either over the weekend or on Monday.  One of the things that’s made the content even better in recent years is the AI generated images.  PW is a HUGE fan of AI Generated images and uses them almost every week.  This past week’s update with the protesting golfers truly made me laugh out loud.  However, I have to point out one oversight.  See the red circle on the picture to the left – why does this man have an extra arm?  And what in the hell is the extra arm holding?

One Last Thing

We received the following “anonymous” comment on this week’s survey: Pace of play needs to be evaluated.  People shanking them 50 yards into the woods looking for balls (you ain’t going to find it).

First of all, thank you kindly for your comment.  I’ve taken it to heart and have “evaluated” the pace of play.  Here is what I found – it’s SLOW!  And…it’s been slow for the last 13 years.  We as the co-commissioners do as much as we can to speed up the pace of play.  Couple of examples – reminders on the blog on how to make your play quicker and setting up tee times in a way that promotes speed of play.

But here is the thing, the slow play is generally the result of new members of the GCCGL learning the game of golf, or people that play just for fun.  And you know what – I wouldn’t have it ANY OTHER WAY!  The beauty of the GCCGL is that we welcome EVERYONE regardless of their skill level.  So, if 9 holes takes two hours and 30 minutes versus 2 hours, deal with it.  My question to you is this – why in the hell are you in a hurry?  Play golf and drink a couple beers.  If you don’t like it, I know a different group of guys you can play with on Thursdays.  I’ll give you their number…enjoy.

I don’t like the tone of that “anonymous” comment.  Go back and read my “tips for faster play” HERE.  Clearly YOU hit the ball straight every time and never in the woods, but I bet you are doing something else that makes you play slow.

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
