Kreyling Korner – Week #3 – May 6, 2021
THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK
1-0 in the MOW!!!! Who cares if I won low net money last week… I’m 1-0 in the MOW!!!!! Ethridge with the 7-3 beatdown on Crowe and…. I’m 1-0 in the MOW!!!
Week 3 MOW – Joe “Cousin Joe” Cook vs. Joe “Boot Boy” Eiser – what a great week for match play. Harris V Roller (6-12-2), Goldenberg Vs. Kreyling (10-3), Morrell Vs. Nill (2-3-1) and Ethridge Vs. Livermore (3-2). Any one of these could fit the bill for the MOW in week 3. But, in my humble opinion, you have to go with the match that is a historic deadlock. Cook and Eiser first faced off in 2010 and in their overall 10 matches, the record stands at 5-5. It’s a little too early in the year to consider current form, but it is worth mentioning Boot Boy is coming off a relatively easy week 2 win over Bedell; Cousin Joe suffered a crushing loss to Morrell. We all know the feared “Back Nine of the Willows” makes its first appearance this week in an infantile 2021 season. The combo of course and early season jitters typically result in high scores for most of the league. But does this course prove advantageous to Cook or Eiser? In the 5 historical wins for Cousin Joe, 3 have come on the Willows back.
GLOSSY PREDICTION – Cousin Joe is giving up 1 stroke this week, which will end up being on hole number 10. If you are going to give strokes, it’s always good to give them early (that’s what she said). I keep thinking the course is the biggest factor in this match. I’m going with Cook’s historical win percentage against Eiser on the back of the Willows. Cousin Joe wins 6-4.
THE KREYLING KORNER
So, George got weird this past week. Don’t get me wrong, I like PW and I appreciate the shout out. However, George is one of my favorite targets in Kreyling Korner. The blog lovefest creeped me out and in no way earned any free passes. Plus, he probably jinxed me. George, you and I are blog enemies – plain and simple. You’re short, bald and wear cargo shorts. There…I feel better.
In this week’s Kreyling Korner, we are going to look at some GCCGL truisms. A truism is defined as a statement that is obviously true and says nothing new or interesting. Nothing new or interesting…kind of like PW (I told you, blog enemies).
- A two-foot putt counts the same as a two-foot drive.
- No matter how badly you are playing, it’s always possible to play worse.
- The odds of hitting a duffed shot increase by the square of the number of people watching.
- The less skilled the player, the more likely he is to share his ideas about the golf swing.
- Every time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make two triple-bogeys to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe.
- A ball you can see in the rough from 50 yards away is not yours.
- There are two kinds of bounces: unfair bounces and bounces just the way you meant to play it.
- Don’t buy a putter until you’ve had a chance to throw it.
- Never question an 8!
Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
