Kreyling Korner – Week 15 – August 27, 2020

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

Busy week this week gentleman so you only get a MOW.  Ethridge puts the smackdown on Bedell last week 6.5-3.5.  You can read all about the match in Swiper’s guest blog here.  I have to hand it to Mike, that blog was very nicely done.  He has withstood George and I giving him the business week in and week out and finally had a chance to give it back.  #respect  My overall MOW record stands at 5-5. Let’s get on to week 15 and Battle Golf.

Week 15 MOW – Kurt “Lipgloss” Kreyling vs. Joe “Cousin Joe” Cook – Once a year I put myself in this MOW (even though I claim I don’t…there is a jinx…blah blah blah).  And, in week 15, I was really leaning towards Harris and Duer.  Harris is 3-8 overall, but has lost the last 2 playing against Duer in his current form.  The storylines are endless.  However, I was reviewing Cupcake’s Battle Golf stats and noticed something.  My lifetime win percentage for Battle Golf is 64.3%; Cook’s is 0.0%.  That’s right, in Cook’s five appearances he has yet to record a W.  I’m sure the readers of Kreyling Korner are thinking what I’m thinking – well of course you want to put yourself in the MOW this week, Cook sucks at Battle Golf.  Not only does Cook suck at Battle Golf, he hates Battle Golf.  Don’t believe me – ask him when you see him tonight.  Eventually, you will have to stop him from going on and on about how stupid of an event it is.  Personally, I like it.  I get it you purist, it’s not golf.  If you lose your putter, you’re screwed.  You are probably not going to shoot a low round.  And you’re probably not going to lose low net.  But isn’t that part of the awesomeness of this event?  Embrace having to put with a 3-wood and hitting tee shots without a driver.  It’s one night a year, and it’s supposed to be fun.  Not normal golf fun – different golf fun.

GLOSSY PREDICTION – Do stats even matter this week?  Probably not but I’ll give them anyway: Kreyling is 8-3 averaging 5.5 points a match; Cook is 4-5 averaging 4.8 points.  Our lifetime record is 3-3-1 and CJ gets 2 strokes tonight.  What does all this mean?  It means I’m going to lose.  Look, this isn’t a trick to put a MOW jinx on Joe, this is my true prediction.  Joe hasn’t won in 5 tries…at some point that streak ends, no matter how much he hates the event.  Cook wins 5.5-4.5.

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
