Kreyling Korner – Week #13 – August 13, 2020

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

Back to match play in week #13.  My overall MOW record stands at 4-4 and nothing would bring me greater joy than being over .500 this late in the season.  Let’s jump right in!

Week 13 MOW – Nick “Potter” Duer vs.  Danny “Snoodles” Roller – How about this?  Snoodles is in the MOW for the first time in 2020!  In years past, there is no way it would take Roller 13 weeks to be in the mow.  Why did it take so long you might ask?  That’s a question I’ve been asking myself and this is where I have landed.  First and foremost, I like Danny.  All around good dude, best putter in the league and enjoyable to play with.  Because of that, I think I generally keep him out of the MOW because I don’t want to jinx him.  Read between the lines here, if you end up in the MOW, I probably don’t like you.  I’m kidding Ethridge…you’re a good dude too.  Point number 2, sometime starting last season, old Danny just hasn’t been himself.  It’s been well documented that Danny went through a transition period in 2019 after purchasing new irons.  However, something seems off.  Don’t believe me – look at his win percentage between 2011 and 2018 – .608; 2019 through 2020 – 0.333.  The exact opposite can be said for Snoodles opponent.  Nick Duer’s recent form has been lights out.  From 2011 to 2018, Potter’s win percentage was 0.535; 2019 through 2020 – 0.684.

GLOSSY PREDICTION – What does this all mean?  Simple – Roller gets one stroke on the front of Pioneer.  Is that enough to overcome Potter’s red hot 2020 (he is second in the points race, second on the money leader board, and tied for second on the win percentage leader board)?  Unfortunately, I don’t think so.  I think it’s a nail biter but I think Duer takes home the W.  Maybe that’s how I really feel?  Maybe it’s a way to jinx China Virus and kick start my man Roller?  I’ll never tell.  Potter wins 5.5-45.

THE KREYLING KORNER

Question for the league – What is ET short for?  Because he’s only got tiny legs.

Left Handers

August 13 is National Left Handers day!  Who knew that us south paws had a day all to ourselves?  As the resident lefty of the GCCGL, I wanted to take this opportunity to point out some prominent people throughout history that were left handed: Leonardo Da Vinci, Keanu Reeves, Chewbacca the Wookie (FACT…look it up), Ricki Martin (and now She Bangs is stuck in my head), Albert Einstein, Jack The Ripper (I thought they never caught this guy, so how do they know that for sure), Babe Ruth, and of course the greatest lefty to ever play golf Kur…er….Phil Mickelson.  If we weren’t living under the strict Covid-19 restrictions, I would expect a handshake from all of you tonight.  However, since that cannot be done I will simply take beers from the groups that finish in front of me.  Thank you all for my special day!

Cupcake Exotics

That’s right, I said it.  Cupcake Exoctics are trending up.  After a solid Pink Ball performance the team of Cupcake, Patient Zero, Ollie and Lip Gloss have dug their way out of last place for the first time in 2020.  Sure, we are only 3 points out of last place, and we will probably slide back there after tonight because I just jinxed us, but who cares.  We are going to ride this high right now.  And you know what…we are only 4.5 points out of third place.  We’re coming for you Gout my Fairway 2.0!!!!

Trending Down

China Virus

Very strange to find the first place team in the “trending down” section.  China Virus had an amazing score in the Pink Ball scramble that launched them into first place, 22 points ahead of second. Good on you boys!  Well played!  But…did I read PW’s blog post correctly?  Did he pose the question that this team could be the most hated in GCCGL history?  So, this team had one snafu with the “good if it goes” controversy.  I mean the fact that NOT ONE PERSON on the team actually said, on the hole where the incident occurred, “yeah that’s not good at all” is pretty bad.  Ignore the fact that not one of the 4 actually admitted it was bogus in the face of the league.  Give them some credit – they did accept that score was wrong after they slept on it.  There was also rumors of the length of time it took this team to count their team score up after last weeks round…but that doesn’t mean anything – right?  The criticism may be unfair, but unfortunately the eyes of the league are on their every move.

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
