WEEK 12 MOW – Danny “Snoodles” Roller vs. Matt “the Politician” Bedell

Since it’s US Open week, I poured over the matches to see if anything stood out.  The match that keeps jumping off the page is Snoodles versus the Politician.  Two things caught my eye:

1 – In US Open week Roller has a win percentage of 80% (5 matches) and Bedell has a win percentage of 50% (4 matches). These are two of the higher win percentages by individuals, in the US Open event, matched up this week.

2 – Roller and Bedell have only matched up 1 time in the history of the GCCGL.  Is this right?  Roller a member of the GCCGL since 2007 and Bedell a member since 2011 have only played once?  For what it’s worth Roller won that night way back in 2012, 6.5-3.5.

GLOSSY PREDICTION – Ole Lip-Gloss has amassed a 4-2 record on the season using stats.  And…4-2 is by far the best I have ever done roughly 50% through match play.  We are sticking to our guns in week 12.  Captain Cupcake did a wonderful job of providing the relevant information as it relates to US Open Week.  Lifetime, Bedell shots an average net of 43.5 and Roller shoots an average net of 40.6.  Obviously, the net scores I just spoke of take into account strokes, but I still want to point out that Bedell gets 1 tonight.  This one seems pretty cut and dry tonight (sorry Matt), Roller wins 6-4.

Short work week, so only 1 topic.  And it’s a rant so if you don’t want to hear it, move along.

US Open Week

The league has spoken and the US Open week will move courses in 2024 to match whatever week the US Open is being played.  THIS IS INSANELY STUPID!!!  The main reason the US Open week was started was to remind everyone, GOLF IS HARD.    Really hard if you do things like play from tees that are super long (like from the back tees on the Willows back 9) AND you don’t get to roll your ball to the perfect lie every time.  And don’t forget – you have to make every single putt!  So next year there is a chance we will play US Open week on the Pioneer.  Won’t that be exciting!!!  Let’s move to the back tees…oh wait, we already play the back tees on the Pioneer.  But Lip-Gloss, you won’t get to roll the ball.  Oh great point…except it doesn’t matter when we can just bomb the ball over the pioneer.  And generally, if you miss left or right, you still turn a bad lie into a bogey because you are like 75 yards from the green (at worse).  Yeah, there are exceptions to this, but the Pioneer is an easier course for a reason.  Don’t even get me started on the putting.  If anyone says the pioneer greens are just as challenging as the Willows, you need to be committed.

Battle golf is gone because…oh dear me…we might have to putt with something other than putters.  How many people said – battle golf is not a TRUE golf event, so we can’t possible have it in the GCCGL.  And NOW we are moving US Open week to match the week the US Open is actually being played. Why? Who cares when it is being played?  The US Open advertises itself as the “toughest test in golf” regardless of what course it is played on.  Period.  End of story.  That is exactly what we tried to mimic in the league.  Having a tough test of golf in the GCCGL on ANY 9 besides the back of the Willows is asinine.  Are people butt-hurt because they shoot high scores one week a year?  Are we now coming up with ways to make everything easier?  What happened to wanting to play TRUE golf events?  Maybe I misunderstood what we meant by true golf events…what the league really wants is EASY events.

I could keep going on this, but I’m just going to end this rant the same way I started it.  Moving the US Open week to different courses to match the actual week of the US Open is SERIOUSLY DUMB.  We should have just changed the title of the event to “Golf is Hard Week.”  Then we wouldn’t have people whining about moving the course because “the US Open moves every year.”  Idiots!

One more thing – we have 24 people in this league.  Why did 19 people vote?  If the other 5 people actually voted, WE MIGHT STILL BE ON THE BACK OF THE WILLOWS NEXT YEAR!!!!!
