June 28, 2012 Update

[dc]O[/dc]nly seven weeks left in the 2012 GCCGL season. Can you believe that? It feels like we are just warming up! I  apologize for the late update but as you probably already know, I was on vacation last week. I heard it was super hot last Thursday so to have 22 of 24 golfers show up is a tribute to the dedication of our members and substitutes. We had another 6 subs fill in last week. Thank you to all!! This league would not be as successful without our subs! I know I say this all the time but it is true.

This will be a short blog this week since I was not there and heard not much went on. I noticed that for the first time this season, Menace to Sobriety did NOT lose a team match play! They didn’t win either but at least they tied Balls of Fury (20 -20). Congratulations! This is a huge accomplishment. They still have 10 weeks to notch a one in the win column. I’m pretty sure that we’ve never had a team lose all it’s team matches and non-match play events. Good luck!

We still have a very close race heading down the stretch. Ollie Livermore is red hot right now and is kicking ass and taking names. He took another 6.5 points this week and won low net again leading his team along with Cupcake to a (22.5-17.5) win over the UMass Debate Team. They have opened up a slim 8.25 point lead over UMass. Meanwhile, the new look NQ8! team narrowly beat the Big Tebowski’s (21-19). They were led by super-sub, Silent H, who grabbed 7 points. We have only 12.5 points separating the first 4 teams! Sadly, the Big Tebowski’s and Menace to Sobriety have a long way to make up.

We stay on the Willows front 9 this week as we continue team team play. In a short 3 weeks, we will hold our third non-match play event which will be a team Stableford event. A big thanks to my co-commissioners for running the asylum while I was basking on the beautiful beaches of Hilton Head Island. It takes more than you think to run this league, updating statistics, managing tee times and making sure we have enough participants each week to maintain the required 75% attendance minimum set by Kenton County Golf Course. Next time you see those guys in the hallways of GCC, instead of avoiding them like the plague like I do, give them a pat on the shoulder and say, “Thanks man”. Hope to see you on the golf course and as always, hit ’em straight!
