2021 – Week Twelve

For heaven’s sake… mark your ball. I believe George has mentioned this on the blog previously and maybe even Lip Gloss mentioned it on “Kreyling’s Korner”… but at this point there’s no reason for you to not mark your golf ball. I challenge anyone to give me a good reason for not marking your ball.

I asked this same question the other night and the only response I got was “I’m lazy”.  Well, thank you Pete for that startling insight.

Every PGA Tour player does it. Many in this league do it. It really comes down to one reason and one reason only.  Not marking your ball allows you to use any ball you find.  Don’t be that guy. Get a sharpie and mark it up. Use lines.  Use dots.  Draw a picture.  Write your initials.  It’s all up to you and it’s easy.

Another option is ordering balls with a distinct logo or number. Many golf ball manufacturer websites offer you the ability to choose a logo or even upload your own logo… such as Titleist, TaylorMade and Bridgestone. You can choose any number 00-99 and up to 3 lines of text if you choose. There’s also 3rd party websites that will allow you to add text and/or a logo to a any brand of ball your choose.

I’ll get you started…  www.mycustomgolfball.com

The point is, you can easily make a ball that is unique to you and helps you and your playing partners find your ball more quickly without any questions about who’s ball it is.

T.W.I.G. Notes
Well, well, well… It’s only been 2 years, but it finally happened.  Mike “Swiper” Ethridge finally played somebody who won low net.  Mike didn’t play bad himself.  He shot his handicap, but Dahm handed Mike a 7-3 beatdown on his way to a Net 32.   Doesn’t feel too good, does it, Mike?

Bedell took the A/B low net with a 33, taking 6.5 points from Goldie. Things are definitely getting tight at the top of the standings.  The 1st Place team, Jerry’s Kids, only managed 16 points this week, allowing Dustined to Fail to creep within 4.5 points and the Rollin’ 60’s to get within 8.

The current standings are as follows:
Jerry’s Kids:                    253.5
Dustined to Fail:          249.0
Rollin’ 60’s:                     245.5
Aces Ventura:               236.0
Good if Joe Shows:    233.0
Designated Drivers: 216.0

If you broke those numbers down by Match Play and Scrambles, the standings would look like this:

Match Play (only)
Jerry’s Kids:                      194.5
Dustined to Fail:              186.5
Rollin’ 60’s:                      182.5
Aces Ventura:                  181.5
Good if Joe Shows:         173.5
Designated Drivers:        161.50

Scrambles/Team Events
Rollin’ 60’s:                      63.0
Destined to Fail:              62.5
Good if Joe Shows:         59.5
Jerry’s Kids:                      59.0
Designated Drivers:        54.5
Aces Ventura:                  54.5

The reason I bring that up, is this week we have a brand new event to the GCCGL…

I’m really looking forward to this event.  This gives those teams trailing Jerry’s Kids a chance to close the gap even further as JK’s have not (to this point) been the strongest scramble team.  The last hole should have those D players shaking in their golf spikes.

The rest of July really affords my team, the Rollin’ 60’s a chance to make some noise.  The week of the 22nd, we play the 2nd place team and the following week (the 29th) we play the 1st place team during US Open week.  Yes, Morell,  I have that date circled on my calendar.  In the words of Toby Keith, “I may not be as good as I once was… but I’m as good once as I ever was”.

Vegas Baby, Vegas
The Vegas 4… John Rayburn, Danny Roller, Nick Duer (or Player to be determined) and yours truly head to the unbelievable Paiute Golf Resort just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada to represent, not just the GCCGL, but all of Northern Kentucky in the 2-Day, 4-Man Best Ball Event at the America’s Golf Festival.

It’s THE finest golf property I’ve ever stepped on and if you get a chance, check out the website at www.lvpaiutegolf.com.  Additionally, if anyone wants us to throw down $20 bucks on your behalf, we’d be more than happy to do so.

Random Thoughts
I just found out that Ollie has a son.  Does he play golf?  If so, why hasn’t he ever subbed in the league?

Speaking of subs… this is vacation season.  Subs are limited, so make sure you lock yours up early. Chose your subs wisely.  Currently subs this season are a combined 8-11-8. Hard work does not pay off.  I estimate that I’ve spent 60-70 hours just practicing since May 1st and my game is not much better.  In that same time amount of time I could’ve gotten a helicopter pilots license. Apparently Ben doesn’t like his nickname… Well too bad, “Dahm”.  It’s here to stay.

Has anyone seen this man?

He’s officially a considered a “missing person” at this point. And while we’re looking for things… somebody find this man a logo.

And finally, simply because I find this hilarious…

As always, Golf is Hard. If it were easy, it would be called “your mom”.
