2021 Opening Tee

The start of the 26th season of the GCCGL is almost here! Meet your 2021 GCCGL teams! The official start date to the season is 4/22 but the pre-season starts on 4/8! We have two pre-season weeks scheduled that allows for members to come out and enjoy a couple of practice rounds and turn in some scores.  New members are encouraged to come out to get a couple of scores in to help calculate your handicap.

We have a few announcements.

GCCGL Blog performance issues have been addressed. The commissioner’s office has invested some money into the GCCGL Blog and PW finally found some time to work on the issue the site was having rendering from mobile phones. You will be happy to hear that it has all been fixed! Let us know if you like the changes and for the love of God, stop sending PW hate texts about the blog!

If you are 60 or older at the start of the season, you will be allowed to tee off from Gold or Gray tees depending where the rest of the league is teeing off from. This includes Pioneer #9.

We have moved up 1 tee time this year to 5:08PM. This was not our choice. The clubhouse moved us up to accommodate a new league behind us. We tried to warn the clubhouse that we’ve never had a league behind us for the last 25 years but apparently they don’t care. Good luck with that!  Check out the 2021 League Rotation. While you’re reading that, you might as well read the 2021 GCCGL League Agreement too. Please pay your dues prior to April 22nd.

In order to pay cupcake during these uncertain times, it is preferred to use electronic payments:

Now for everyone’s favorite blog post of the year, the annual GCCGL championship predictions from Top to Bottom.

(1st Place) Jerry’s Kids – Goldie, Morell, Allen, J., Ethridge
With TWO legit A-Players and last season’s MVP, how can this team NOT win the 2021 GCCGL Championship? Throw in a ringer from south Florida and you have a makings of a wire-to-wire championship run. Will Ethridge’s new handicap bring him down to earth? Will the rookie curse rear its ugly head and send Jim Allen packing for Miami? Time will tell.

(2nd Place) Aces Ventura – Duer, Bedell, Freeman, Leininger
On the surface, this team looks like it can’t miss. But then again, so did investing with Bernie Madoff. The only thing this team has going against them is that Duer and Freeman have won back-to-back championships. The odds of that happening 3X in a row has got to be worst than Matt Bedell having a bad hair day. Leininger has been a long-time sub and is familiar with the craziness of this league so that’s a good thing. The bad thing is that the beer cart stops coming around after the 5th hole.

(3rd Place) Good If It Joe’s – Roller, Cook, Crowe, Capannari
This team is the sleeper of the season. Don’t be surprised if this team hangs around long enough to cause some serious waves in the GCCGL standings. Roller is due. Cook is coming off a championship season.  Cap had a career year last season. The wildcard here is Mr. Andy Crowe. If this kid can get out of his own head and play up to his ability, watch out.

(4th Place) Rollin’ 60’s – Harris, Eiser, Almeida, Rayburn
I know, I know, everyone expected this team to be picked number 1 this season but there are a LOT of questions swirling around this team. Big Donkey may be out of commission for most or all of the season. Eiser is still looking for that elusive perfect golf round. He almost had it last weekend but he missed putts on hole 7, 8, 12 and 14. And if he didn’t lose his ball on holes 3, 4 and 17 he would have gotten it. Syndrome’s health is as unpredictable as the Cincinnati weather between his gout outbreaks and questionable diet. And you never know what Almeida is going to bring to the table. Too much uncertainty here to predict where this team will end up.

(5th Place) Dustined To Fail – Kreyling, Nill, Livermore, Allen, D.
Here we go again. Cupcake and Lip Gloss have been on the same team 7 out of the last 9 seasons! It hasn’t gotten them anywhere. There have been ZERO championships during that stretch but KK is playing his best golf. Cupcake is still as solid as anyone in the league. Will they benefit from Ollie moving up to the “old man” tees? Will Dustin Allen survive the idiosyncrasies of this whacked out league or will the “league effect” bring him down like it has so many others?

(6th Place) Designated Drivers – Nixon, Roddy, Klein, Parvesse
The best thing about this team is their name. A better name for this team would have been Train Wreck. Nixon is a solid A Player but he’s still adjusting to being a full-time member in this league. Roddy is dealing with serious enough injuries to where he almost didn’t play this year. Klein and Parvesse have no idea what they’ve signed up for. These guys will most likely be spending more time on the back patio drinking beer than they do on the course.

So there you have it. Take it to the bank! If you are up for it and weather permitting, our first practice round is on April 8th! If you can make it to the course this Thursday, then get out there.  The schedule is yet to be set for the regular season. Good luck everyone. We hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ’em straight!
