“Tornadic”

I know this sounds like a broken record but damn! Can we catch a break with this Thursday night weather? The odds of us getting rained on between 5-8pm for 5 straight Thursdays in a row must be extremely low. Yet we’ve come to expect it. And better yet, YOU all show up anyway. THAT is what this league is all about. Strap in because PW is about to get real with you folks right now. As I was huddled under a tree, wet, shivering and wondering if lightning was about to hit the golf course, I watched droves of golfers run into the clubhouse waiting out the storm or getting rain checks and leaving. Next to me stood Potter who was tracking the storm on his phone and barking out second-by-second updates on the storm’s path. Meanwhile, the 4th foursome, team I’d Tap That, one by one walked up to the first tee, lightening flashing all around, folks in the background running and screaming like it was Armageddon. By the way folks were reacting, you’d have thought the day of reckoning had finally arrived. The point is, there was A LOT of commotion. Before you knew it, a small crowd had formed out in front of the clubhouse and started watching a bunch of maniacs playing golf in the worst possible weather. Sounds about right. And then came the winds. Holy shnikeys! Hurricane-like winds, blowing in a south-easterly direction was the icing on the cake. It was “tornadic” man. I love that word, “tornadic”. Speaking of tornadic, did any of you have the chicken parmesan from the cafeteria the other day? Wee-hoo! Man oh manischewitz, I was generating some of my own tornadic activity at the far end bathroom stall if you catch my drift. Anyhow, none of that mattered, it was business as usual for this league as each member of I’d Tap That tee’d it up and laced each of their drives long and straight down the fairway. I should have taken a video because I really can’t put into words what we were witnessing. Watching those guys tee off, you’d think it was a normal sunny and calm 80-degree cloudless day out there. That’s why you have to love this crazy league of ours.

Other than the crazy weather, there’s not a whole lot to talk about this week. Team, Not So Perfect Attendance is certainly living up to its name. Three of their four members were absent this week and they only played with three players. Mike, “Meat” Morell was the one lone show. I heard a cute little bedtime story, you want to hear it? Once upon a time, a man who was playing golf on a very tornadic day, hit a nice drive out in the fairway. Let’s call this man, LG. LG was very proud of his drive and started to walk to his ball. But when he arrived, he encountered a mean, old ugly Ogre. We’ll call him, Ollie. LG was afraid of Ollie, and why not, that hairdo will scare the crap out of anyone. Anyway, Ollie the Ogre picked up LG’s ball, looked him in the eye and then proceeded to spit on his beautiful, white golf ball. As LG looked in horror, his eyes began to tear up and his lower lip began to quiver. At that moment, Ollie realized that he was wrong to spit on LG’s ball and in a rare moment of kindness, handed the gobbed up, spit-laden ball to LG. LG’s horror turned to love and after applying half a bottle of hand-sanitizer, LG dropped his ball and continued to play his game of golf. The End.

The winners of the Stableford scramble were Wrath of Serkan who posted -5 with 5 birdies and 4 pars for a total of 29 points. I’d Tap That finished second with 27 points. The final results were as follows:

Team Score Points
Wrath of Serkan 30 29
I’d Tap That 31 27
Not So Perfect Attendance 31 27
Gout My Fairway 32 21
Bermuda Knights 34 15

The CTP winners were Das Boot (A/B) and The Assassin or Sirhan Sirhan (C/D). This kid has been in the league for 6 weeks and has a several nicknames already and we can’t find one for D. Fusting? Both shots were GREAT. Congratulations to the winners.

I’m looking for guest bloggers the next two weeks. I will not be able to blog next week or the week after. Syndrome is game. Perhaps a collaborative approach for the next two weeks? Gobstopper? Das Boot? Han Solo? Maybe you guys and anyone else who is feeling a little creative can get together put something together as a group? If so, send it off to Lip Gloss or Cupcake and they’ll post it on the GCCGL blog. I can’t wait to read it on the beach!

We continue match play the next couple of weeks on the back of the Pioneer. If you can’t make it, please give one of our subs a chance to play. We hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ‘em straight!
