Week 2 Update

[dc]W[/dc]ell, the GCCGL 2011 is officially on the way however it certainly didn’t go as planned. Let’s get to the good stuff first.  The weather was beautiful. We had perfect attendance once again! Everyone was there on time and we tee’d off on time (right at 5:32pm).  It all started so perfect, right?  About 10 minutes into it, the party was over. The first group pretty much played as an “eightsome” right on the heals of the group ahead of us.  The play was slower than an O.J. Simpson police chase. It was awful. I’m hoping is was an anomaly with the course conditions being as it was but I’m afraid that the league in front of us may be a problem all year long. An email was sent to the clubhouse professional and I hope to hear back soon.  If this happens again next week, something will be done. So with that out of the way, let’s get to the week 2 results.

There were some higher than normal scores but that’s not unusual for the first time out this season and especially given the wet conditions. The Heywood’s jumped out to the early lead by taking 24.5 pts.  They were led by Nick Duer who was hitting ROPES all night long much to the chagrin of co-commissioner Cupcake. And just when Nill thought he might steal a point, Duer chips one in the hole from way out to par #11 and sinks Cupcake into a deep depression the rest of the night. Sphincter Says What didn’t do too shabby either by grabbing 21.5 points last night.  They were led by Shane Metz who took 7 from newcomer Joe Carrier.  Joe didn’t look too happy….

The rest of the field finished bunched up 18.5 pts (The Handi-Capped), 18 pts (Gunga Galunga) and 17.5 points (The Cletard Rollers). Syndrom and J.J. picked on the girls (not very gentlemen-like) fellas. Bedell schooled “old man” Cletus.  Cleet knew he was in trouble on the first hole when Matt drove the green and was putting for eagle.  Nice.  The match of the week had to be Roller/Harris.  They finished tied (5-5) after 9 of the slowest holes I’m sure they ever played.  It was so late when we finished that no one really stayed to partake in the traditional consumption of watered-down draft beverages.  Instead a few went to BW’s in Fort Wright.  By the time I got home, it was almost 11:30pm.  That’s not right.

Low net winner for the (CD group) was Matt Bedell with a very respectable low net of 32!  Can’t wait to see that handicap adjustment. Due to the slow play and darkness, there is no (A/B) winner.  We’ll double up the winnings somewhere down the road.  Also, we continue to recruit more substitutes.  We’ve just added Jennifer Dominik and Zach McNeil to the ever-growing list. We have so many subs that want to play we should never be short in attendance this entire season.

On another note, two weeks ago, we did have a foursome go out in the monsoon rains and actually wound up playing a few holes in the slop. The foursome included Cousin’ Joe, Big Mike, Roller and Goldie.  They wound up playing 6 holes.  The lone ranger (pun intended) out on the course was just cleaning up and doing the normal closing up tasks when he spots this gruesome bunch of misfits putting golf balls on basically a sponge of a green.  His words matched his confused and disgusted look on his face, “What the heck are you guys doing out here?”  Not sure how Goldie got through the thunder and lightning.  We did get some funny pictures and video out of this. Pictures and video provided by Cousin’ Joe.  Thanks for contributing to the cause!
