Week 15 Update

[dc]A[/dc]nother week, another perfect attendance due to our stellar subs! We had another 5 subs fill in last night (3 of them for The Heywoods). A big thanks to Berkley, Glaser, Dominik, Cerreta and Palmer. So far this season we’ve had subs fill in for almost 50 matches/events! If the interest is still there next season to fill a sixth team, we’ll see what we can do. I have started a dialog with the Kenton County Golf clubhouse pro about an earlier tee time and perhaps doing a shotgun start having the foursomes go off on two different nines each week. It’s a thought. We’ll see.

As everyone has noticed, we are losing more and more precious daylight each week. Here I am talking about a possible expansion to 24 members and we can barely get 20 finished in the first 4 and last 4 weeks of the season. Again, if the commissioner’s office can guarantee a tee time no later than 6:04pm for the last group, then we can do it. As many of you already know, we finished in the dark last night. The picture above is actually a shot of Bedell hitting his approach shot on 18. You could barely see out there. It was SOOO dark out there that when I went to grab the pin on #18, I wound up fondling Cletus……All kidding aside, I was in the last group and that last hole was tough (no excuses though). I think for the last two weeks we should tee off lower handicap players first (if you get to the tee on time), followed by the higher handicap players. It just makes sense and gives everyone a chance to finish in the daylight. It is imperative we tee off ON TIME. Cletus, make it happen brother!

There’s been a lot of chatter around the league wanting to make last second trades here and there. Gunga Galunga is mired in last place and it would take a small miracle for them NOT to finish last this season so it is not surprizing to hear of some dissention amongst the ranks. Some trade rumors were intriguing. I like the one that offered up Meyer & Petryk for Bedell and Moore a small bucket of balls and some tees. Note that is was a small bucket…..Hmm, Harris, Petryk and Meyer on the same team……..I’m not sure that one would have gotten by the Three Stooges (I mean Three Wiseman).  It doesn’t matter since the trading deadline has passed.

The big winners this week, The Heywoods, who are clinging on within the 20 point margin of first place giving them a small ray of hope. This was made possible after a huge week picking up 26.5 points. Their strategy? Calling all subs! That’s right, the only actual member of The Heywoods to play was Goldie.  They were led by substitute Ken Glaser’s 8 points as he filled in for Duer. Sphincter Says What? finished with 22 points. They were led by Joe Cerreta who filled in for Shane Metz and picked up 7 points and have moved into first place in this seesaw battle for the championship. The Cletard Rollers and The Handi-Capped picked up 18 points each while Gunga Galunga continues their spiral into the abyss known as last place.  Two more match plays and then the final all-important best ball scramble to finish the season. Stay tuned.

The proposed 19th week has officially been scrapped. Apparently Syndrome has the recollection capacity of a 97 year old Alzheimer’s patient. It turns out that he has a pretty important birthday party to attend on that day. It didn’t matter, we didn’t have enough folks that would have been able to make it on Saturday anyway. It’s official, the 2-Man Combined Net was a bust by an overwhelming margin. The only question was whether or not I should be shot for coming up with that disaster. Thanks to those who DIDN’T vote for killing me!

We move to the Pioneer Front Nine for the next two weeks. If 50% of you scored at or under par this week on the Willows Back, then I wonder what’s going to happen on the easiest nine on the course. Check out the new poll question (subs only). We hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ’em straight!
