The "Drive-off"

Week 16 – August 17th, 2006 Update
Preface:
The only time the GCCGL finish in a tie for first place. We’ve had several 1/2, single point finishes but never a tie. here is how the two team captains at the time decided how they wanted to determine the Championship.

What a finish!  This was the first time in GCCGL history we had a tie for first place!  Think about all those puts that rimmed out or were left 1/2 an inch short.  Or how about those times where a sub could’ve helped out but instead you played the card and lost…….It could have made the difference between tying or winning outright.
Well, after 16 weeks (many of them wasted by weather), Paul Eaglin led his team Get ‘R Done to a first place tie over the heavily favored Sandbaggers who played with two A-type players all year.  Apparently, instead of playing a playoff hole or two or even coming back the next week the teeing it up again, their two big men, Ed Petryk and Paul Eaglin decided that they’d “man up” and have a drive-off to decide the 2006 GCCGL Championship.
One drive, longest drive on the fairway wins.  Period.  I’m not sure how it was decide who goes first but Ed Petryk did and killed it!  I didn’t see it, I wasn’t there, but I heard he hit so long that it came with its own in-flight movie and a complimentary cocktail coupon.
All the pressure was now on Paul and unfortunately it didn’t work out for him or his team.
I commend both those guys for taking up the challenge.  I’m not sure many of us would’ve done the same.
Congratulations to the GCCGL 2006 Champions The Sandbaggers:
Ed Petryk
Mike Harris
Don Moore
Nathan Ostrander
Trophies will be ordered this week.  Jason has already tallied the money winnings.  I’m not sure how he is going to pay out the money.  Jason, enough of this PayPal crap, just give us the cold hard cash!
A huge thanks to my co-commissioners Allen Bloomhuff and Jason Nill for all their help.  Thank you to everyone who participated, including all the subs who subbed this year.  You do make a difference!
I hope to see everyone back next year.  Good luck!
George Almeida, GCCGL co-commissioner
