Kreyling Korner – Week #8 – 06-12-14

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

Week 8 - MOW

“Hurry up batter….this better be a short game, I gotta get home for lunch.” Anyone know what movie that’s from? Anyone? The Sandlot – one of the best sports movies ever made. And it’s my way of saying – let’s skip all the banter and get right to the MOW.

There were some great possibilities this week…until people got subs last minute. My favorite (which was actually brought up by Boot Boy) was Bachman vs. Rayburn. Forget about the golf – he made the comment that Bachman was Dr. Evil and Rayburn was Mini-Me. That’s just funny.

But like I said – subs happened. This week’s LIPSMACKER is Pete “Goldie” Goldenberg vs. Allen “Cletus” Bloomhuff. This really shouldn’t be a contest – Pete’s a better golfer than Allen. However, Pete only holds a slim advantage from a historical perspective at 3-2. The last time these two went toe-to-toe was in 2009. Bleaker was like 6.

I’m dubbing this contest the “Yapper Match.” These two NEVER SHUT UP! Don’t get me wrong – it’s friendly enough and both of them are great guys. But they never stop. Half the time you can’t understand what Cletus is mumbling (I can’t tell if it’s because he is a hillbilly or just old)…and Pete is generally talking about the movie Slapshot. Someone tell Pete we are playing golf (Slapshot is about hockey) and most people in this league haven’t seen it because it was made in 1977!

Good luck to you both…and especially to McLinn and Hlebovy who are also in their group.

THE KREYLING KORNER

KK - Week #8

Work is a little crazy right now, so this week’s Kreyling Korner is going to be golf quote association.   But before we get to the quotes, I want to honor one of my favorite golfer’s – Phil Mickelson. I’ve heard a lot of different things about Phil over the years – but I don’t understand how people can dislike the guy. He plays the game with a “go for it” mentality, always has a smile on his face – even in defeat, and is one of the most fan friendly guys on tour. 15 years ago Phil Mickelson came in second at the US Open – losing to Payne Stewart. Stewart would die in a plane crash later that same year, and Phil would go on to finish runner up at the US Open, 5 more times, without a victory. The US Open is underway at Pinehurst (the same course Phil lost to Stewart originally) and Mr. Mickelson has finished his first round even par – only 2 strokes back from the current leaders at -2.

On with the quotes…

Quote association #1

“If profanity had an influence on the flight of the ball, the game of golf would be played far better than it is.” – Horace G. Hutchinson

It’s hard to pick out one person because almost everyone in the golf league is a violator of this, but I’m going with Jason Nill. He draws a middle finger on his ball to mark it for Pete’s sake.

Quote association #2

“If you’re caught on a golf course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1-iron. Not even God can hit a 1-iron.” – Lee Trevino

Pete Goldenberg! Seriously Pete – the next time there is a little storm…just put a 1-iron in your bag.

Quote association #3

“Golf is a game where men can dress up as pimps and get away with it.” -Robin Williams

That’s right…I’ve been doing it for years!
