Kreyling Korner – Week #2 – April 29, 2021

The 2021 season of the GCCGL is off and running.  And of course, with the conclusion of week 1 came controversy.  After the Rolling 60s won the Florida Scramble, Syndrome was heated when the results came out and his winning team was only awarded 20 points.  You see, old Lip Gloss linked the rules for the FLO-Rida scramble from the website.  The only problem is the website still had the points for 5 teams.  Obviously, we are now at 6 teams.  When the official scoring went out, it was based on the points for 6 teams used years ago.  Syndrome was hot, and I can fully understand why.  The funny thing about all of it – the guy who is responsible for the website (and updating it) is on the Rolling 60s.  Old PW said nothing about the dust up, and even failed to mention it in his blog.  In fact, he went so far as to talk about a “personal” round of golf…not even league play.  The Portuguese really are a peaceful people.  Or maybe they are more like the Swiss – just don’t get involved.

A little short on time this week so I’m only hitting you with a MOW.  Let’s establish the yearly goal – going .500.  And we are off!

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

Week 2 MOW – Andrew “Russell” Crowe Almeida vs. Mike “Swiper” Ethridge – Who doesn’t love this match up in week 1?  The reigning MVP, Swiper, had only one loss in 2020.  Ironically enough, that loss came in Week 17 against none other than our Beyonce loving friend – Crowe.  Historically, Crowe has a winning record over Ethridge at 2-1.  Not much to go on, but it’s worth noting that Crowe’s lone loss to Ethridge came in week 8 of 2020.  The handicap differential in week 8 of 2020 – Ethridge getting 8 strokes; the handicap differential in week 17 of 2020 – Ethridge getting 3 strokes.  Here we are to start match play on the front 9 of the Willows and the handicap differential remains the same as the end of last year, Ethridge is getting 3 strokes.

GLOSSY PREDICTION – One of the talking points around the 2021 draft was if Ethridge could continue his domination despite his drop in handicap.  Ethridge is by far the most improved golfer I have seen during my time in the GCCGL.  However, strokes have a funny way of playing with your mind.  3 is still a lot, but not quite what Ethridge is used to.  On the other side – can Crowe get out of his own way?  If he can do more dancing than telling himself how much he sucks, he could be on his way to 1-0 on the season.  All of that aside, the real question is – who’s a mudder?  Ethridge wins 5.5 – 4.5.

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
