Kreyling Korner – Week 16 – August 5, 2021
THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK
Cousin Joe with the W way back in week 14 so the overall MOW record moves to 4-2.
Week 16 MOW – George “Portuguese Warrior” Almeida vs. Serkan “the Assassin” Freeman – before we get things started, I want to go on record to state that I really want to make the Harris vs. Duer match-up the MOW this week. This is the first time in GCCGL history (unless Cupcake corrects me here) that a match has been played on a course outside of our Kenton County rotation. Unfortunately, I just don’t know much about the course they are playing so my analysis would be weak (not that it’s particularly strong anyway).
GCCGL, it’s time. What time is it exactly LG? It’s time to use this blog space in anyway possible to earn my first ever GCCGL championship. Back when George used to blog, he mentioned that it’s my 11th year in the league and there is a trend of people winning their first championships in their 11th year (Duer and Cook most recently). After week 15, my team, Dustined to Fail, sits 17 points out of first place. That’s a very large mountain to climb with just 5 weeks to play (see Kreyling Korner below). That being said – I’m calling on all the black magic that is in this blog to jinx the teams in front of us. What better way to start than with my sworn blog enemy, George Almeida? At least he was my blog enemy until he quit, you know, blogging. Anyway, George is having a very nice season – 5-2, averaging 5.6 points per match. After rigging the draft, the Rollin 60’s sit in first place and PW has actually contributed. Serkan – he’s 6-4, averaging 5.4 points a match but it doesn’t matter.
GLOSS PREDICTION – Why wouldn’t that matter LG? I’ll tell you why it doesn’t matter. Because PW is going to win. Not only is he going to win, he’s going to win BIG. In fact, I think the universe is going to smile so much on George tonight, he might grow 5 inches, sprout more hair than an Alaskan Musk Ox, and find that cargo pants are actually BACK in style. George wins 8-2.

Rolling 60s
Just an awesome team with awesome guys. Everyone is playing well. Half of them are in Vegas right now having a great time. I’m sure their subs will absolutely destroy tonight in their absence. George is already predicted to win big. Eiser is swell and I wish him nothing but success. Great team trending in the right direction.
Jerry’s Kids
Just an awesome team with awesome guys. Everyone is playing well. Pete has Tucker subbing for him tonight and I’m really looking forward to seeing him destroy Turnwald. Two guys, Ethridge and Morrell are in the running for MVP. Jim Allen might be the one of the nicest people we have added to the GCCGL in years. Just a great team that I wish nothing but success. Great team trending in the right direction.

Complaining about US Open Week
I get it – there are certain events in the GCCGL that people might not like as much as others. Me in particular, I’m not a fan of the Flo-RIDA scramble. I don’t like taking shots off because it’s just hard to get in a rhythm. To each their own. But after reading Big Donkey’s post on US Open week (one of my favorite events of the season and I was sad to miss), I’m utterly shocked people were complaining about it. I can understand the complaints about a scramble event like Montezuma’s Revenge, or even the match-play event Battle Golf. There is a level of gimmick introduced for the “fun factor” that is not “pure golf.” But for all you “purists” that want ONLY match play, how in the hell can you complain about US Open week? Because you have to play by the actual rules? Does it sting a little bit because it’s a reminder we aren’t all as good as we think we might be at this game?
Teams with Double Digit Deficits with 6 weeks to play in the season
After week 14 (yeah I know the stat is a week old, but I didn’t refresh this week so deal with it), Jerry’s Kids were in first place by 2 points over the Rolling 60s. The next closest trailer was Dustined to Fail, 13.5 points out of first. Unfortunately, history is not on the side of the bottom 4 teams with double digit deficits. Some stats that aren’t promising:
- 14 out of 20 years, the team in first or with a single digit deficit after week 14 has won a championship
- The biggest point differential erased in the final 6 weeks was 20.8 in 2014
- 17.5 points were erased in 2006 for a championship
- 11.55 points were erased in 2004 for a championship
Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
