Kreyling Korner – Week #15 – 07-31-14
THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK
IT’S BATTLE GOLF WEEK!!!! I’m as happy as the kid in the video above. No really, every time I think about battle golf – I start dancing like this little dude. So what if people have given me really strange looks as they walk by my office… I don’t care – IT’S BATTLE GOLF WEEK.
So which match takes the coveted title of the Lipsmacker on the greatest week of the year? The truth is all the matches are Lipsmackers this week. Last year two matches went 9-0 (Schemmel over Berkley and The Portuguese warrior over Bachmann). And let’s not forget the whining from Ollie as he was getting beat down by McLinn. It went something like this:
Ollie: “Boooo hooo…don’t take my clubs. Even though I read the Battle Golf rules and understand that if I lose a hole you take my clubs. Booooo hooooo.”
McLinn: “Ok Ollie – I’m having a career year in the GCCGL and the match is in hand, I will take mercy on your soul.”
This conversation is the sole reason the 3M rule (Section 9C-3) has been written into the GCCGL bylaws.
But enough about last year – who does the Glossy One think will walk off the 9th green a little lighter in the…bag .
I’ve poured over the matches and as much as I hate to say this – I’m not sure Bleaker (George Remington) can take the pressure against Bloomhuff. Yes he is on my team…and I really don’t want to make this prediction…but the old man is getting 2 strokes on a course that he can overcome even with a reverse pivot. It is true Cletus has not rounded into his playing form this late in the season as he has in years past, but Bleaker is on a skid. After calling his team out in Week 10 (exact quote to his team captain…ME – “you guys need to start playing better. I’m shooting significantly under my handicap each week.”) he has gone 1 and 3. Add in the Cletus mind tricks – I just don’t know if the young pup can hold off the old dog. Prove me wrong George…prove me wrong.
THE KREYLING KORNER
In only its second year, I believe Battle Golf will be a “tradition” of the GCCGL for many years to come. In this week’s Kreyling Korner, we are going to identify other traditions in a new section I would like to call: #traditionsoftheGCCGL
Constant chatter and other bodily noises in your backswing #traditionsoftheGCCGL
Big donkey dropping his shorts to tuck in his shirt #traditionsoftheGCCGL
Wildcard sending an email at 1:30 on Thursday afternoon looking for a sub #traditionsoftheGCCGL
Matt McLinn’s pre shot routine…five practice swings #traditionsoftheGCCGL
Discussions about blue breakfast foods #traditionsoftheGCCGL
An Allen “Club Goose” on the tee box #traditionsoftheGCCGL
George got hit again… #traditionsoftheGCCGL
