KREYLING KORNER – WEEK #11 – 07-02-15

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

Week 11 - MOW

The Kreyling Korner is kind of long today so let’s get right to the MOWs.

A/B Group – Joe “Boot Boy” Eiser and Danny “Snoodles” Roller looks to be a great one this week.  Especially since these two teams are neck and neck for first place.  Historically, Danny has the upper hand in this match-up 3-1.  I kind of find this surprising.  Eiser’s golf game is sneaky.  You think you are playing well and the next thing you know you are down 4-1.  I will also say I think Danny has had some luck on his side this year (sorry bud).  Several average to above average scores have resulted in wins for Snoodles.  If I had to pick – I think Eiser puts his game face on tonight and takes it 5.5 – 4.5.

C/D Group –   I like George “The Portugese Warrior” and Jennifer Dominik this week.  I had no idea they have met 3 times over the past few years and their record stands at 1-1-1.  An interesting note – two of these matches have taken place on the Willows Back.  George won one and tied the other.  Jennifer is in an interesting situation coming into the league mid-season as a permanent sub.  Can her late start overcome the intimidation of the Portugese Warrior (yes George this is the only time you will be referred to as intimidating)?  The Glossy One says no – I think George wins this match 6-4.

THE KREYLING KORNER

Week 11 - KK

Week 11 of the GCCGL is upon us!  The 2015 season is officially over half-way complete and plenty of teams hold onto dreams of the coveted GCCGL trophy.  Others – well…the beer is good and cold on Thursday night.

This week I think we need to look into some stats.  I’m an accountant and I like numbers – quite frankly I’m shocked I’ve made it to week 11 without doing some sort of statistical evaluation of this league.    I’ve always wondered if a person’s job actually affects the way they play golf.  I mean some days at General Cable can be rather stressful.  And sometimes, it’s hard to turn off that mental stress as you drive from the GCC parking lot to the luxurious Kenton County Golf Course.

Cupcake was gracious enough to provide me the average 9-hole net score of every league member.   The 9-hole averages were calculated on the Willows and Pioneer courses only, using every score ever entered into the handicap system.  From there I grouped each individual into a department and came up with an average net score by department.  The results are below:

Inside Sale:                       35.88

Engineer:                          36.28

Not General Cable:           36.42

Business Team:                36.43

Supply Chain:                   36.65

Finance:                            37.48

IT:                                      37.65

I don’t think anyone would be shocked that the inside sales guys are at the top.  I mean – they are sales guys they are supposed to be good at golf.  Do they have less stress as well?  I guess that is debatable.

Now for you Engineer dudes – well look at you nerds.  This one definitely surprised me.  I don’t know much about what these guys do (or really what any of the departments do besides Finance), but I always thought their job was kind of stressful.  Every week I send the tee time email, and every week half of this crew have out of office responses.  I naturally assumed they were out fixing  and designing cables.  Maybe they are out golfing?

The Not General Cable represents everyone who doesn’t work at General Cable (very original I know).   I’m not sure how to interpret them being third on the list.  But it does beg the question – is the grass greener on the other side?

As far as the Business Team and Supply chain guys – at least you guys are in the middle of the pack.  There is a significant drop off in average net score after Supply Chain.  One other note – there is the possibility the Business Team category could be further segregated.  For example, the GCC website has Joe Carrier in the “Marketing Automotive” department.  I don’t know what that means…

And finally for the losers – Finance and IT.  I’m actually not surprised by this at all.  Finance had the largest representation of the league with 5 individuals.  Since I fall into this category I can say that our jobs can be very stressful.   Then again, we have Cletus and Nill in this category so maybe we just suck.  As for IT – what do you expect from guys that spend their whole day in a closet that can only be accessed via a key pad.  These guys hardly see the sun (seriously – next time an IT person walks by you in the hall note how pale they are) how could we expect them to engage in any type of activity outside?

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
