Kreyling Korner – Week #8 – July 2, 2020

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

What a slide I’ve been on in the MOW.  What started out as such a promising year has quickly turned into me battling to stay at .500.  Ethridge put an absolute beat down on Rayburn last week winning 8-2.  He also gave me a pretty smug grin when he handed in the score card too.  Look you little punk, your handicap needs to adjust!  Overall record stands at 2-3.

Week 8 MOW – George “Portuguese Warrior” Almeida vs. Matt “The Politician” Bedell – How about the head-to-head sheet this week…2 pages!!!!  Week 8 might be the greatest match week yet.  So many choices this week, but when you cut through all of them, I think Almeida vs. Bedell gets the nod.  Historically, these two are 3-3 with there first match-up back in 2010.  PW’s team, Quid Pro Crowe, sits atop the league standings, but not really as a result of his play.  His current 2020 record sits at 1-3, averaging a 4.38 points a match.  The Politician’s team, Gout My Fairway 2.0, currently sits in fourth place.  Matt has also struggled so far in 2020 going 1-3 and averaging 4.5 points a match.

GLOSSY PREDICTION – Week 8 provides a chance for both George and Matt to right the ship for 2020.  Both men had subs last week, so they could be coming into this week cold.  George gets three strokes but that doesn’t strike me as a differential that Matt cannot overcome.  Gut feeling here (and these are usually wrong), but I think Matt gets the best of George tonight.  Bedell wins 6-4.

Time for a trend watch!

Mike Ethridge

What can you say?  The man has invested in facial hair and his golf game, and both are paying dividends.  He sits 4-0 on the year and has captured low net twice.  Winning low net in 50% of his matches  is a pretty impressive clip.  One of the other things I love about Ethridge, his handicap really pisses off George.  Keep up the stellar play Mike!  I know you have been taking lessons and playing a lot of golf and it’s definitely paying off.

Co-commissioner Cupcake and PW

Everyone goes on vacation.  Everyone should go on vacation.  I’m sure everyone in this league is sick of hearing the co-commissioners whine about how much work this league is.  And honestly, when you take each individual doing their own thing, it’s really not that bad.  However, when everyone goes on vacation, and all responsibilities fall to one individual, it sucks.

As I sit here and think about this, I really shouldn’t roast Jason because he tried.  He did send me a spreadsheet that he uses to update all the scores.  All I had to do was drop in the scores and everything calculates…in theory.  However, when people get last minute subs, you have to plug in a government code that’s sent to you by the Donald himself on a direct line from the oval office, and then the damn thing updates appropriately.  On top of that, he didn’t update the handicaps for the back of the Pioneer.  So naturally, when I send out an email with the results explicitly stating these will probably change when Cupcake is back, Serkan sends and email stating – I know you said these are going to get updated, but I don’t agree with the results.  Well thanks, Serkan – I don’t even agree with the results and I calculated them.  He was right though, and his match did swing half a point, but another match on his team went the other way so it didn’t change anything in total points.  Regardless – Jason made a decent effort to help me, but just make your spreadsheets simpler.  Please.  I say this every year you go on vacation.

Now for George – seriously, what do you do?  All you have to do is the weekly update.  That’s it.  And, even on weeks when you are out you get a “guest” blogger.  Apparently, said “guest” blogger (i.e. Syndrome) sent you a blog for week 7 that you didn’t post.  By the time John sent the guest blog to me, I was working advanced algorithms to try and get sub points in the “sub” column and calculating a split for Bachmann and Cember, based on league rules, even though she technically lost to the card.  Yeah, I didn’t get to post that guest blog, so when Rayburn asks me tonight – I’m pointing him right to you.

Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
