2024 – Week 20

What a season! That was a quick 20 weeks! Well, if we are being 100% accurate here, it was actually 22 weeks due to some bonehead decisions, but I won’t get into that. It is a time for celebration!  Congratulations to the 2024 GCCGL Champions, Clubhouse Cowboys! How they won the championship with a name like that’s beyond me, but they did.

You have to admit, PW’s 2024 predictions were almost dead on! I wound up picking the top 3 teams correctly, but just not in the right order. My prediction was:

Predicted Finish Team Actual Finish
1 Drawshank Redemption 3
2 Clubhouse Cowboys 1
3 Our D is Better Than Yours 2

I even predicted Vanilla Gorillas to place 4th and they did! PW is wise! Come on, give it to me!

We didn’t know it at the time but, week 1 introduced the theme of the year when the Snake Oil Salesman would finally be exposed. That was followed by a very well thought out blog which included PW’s Tips & Tricks to help out all the newbies this year. I think it really helped because we had a few newbies record excellent first full seasons in the GCCGL.

We introduced a new and exciting section of the GCCGL blog named Cupcake’s Cupboard. This is one of my favorite additions to the blog in a long while. Halfway through the season, PW was ganged up on by the other two commissioners for some unknown reason when they conspired to find a last-minute (A player) sub to play against me in the PGA Event. Those bastards!

The Red, White and Blue event was a SMASHING success and new GCCGL favorite! Of course, in typical GCCGL fashion, it didn’t go on without some controversy. Lower back issues sidelined PW and Cupcake and Lip Gloss started to turn on each other after some shady substitution on week 12.

And finally, who can forget when the lid was blown off the Sub-Gate scandal this year as co-commissioner Cupcake was caught red-handed hoarding subs. But it worked, Cupcake and his teammates are holding up the 2024 GCCGL trophies and I’m stuck wondering what I could have done differently.

We end the season with a double Cupcake’s Cupboard. These are my favorites! Cletus, make sure you click on the pictures below to view it! Or you can click on the Cupcake’s Cupboard link to review all of them!

Once again, congratulations to Clubhouse Cowboys, Brady Gosney, Jason Nill, Ben Leininger and Jack Tally, the 2024 GCCGL Champions! You know, without a doubt, Lip Gloss is popping a vein right about now. He has been in the GCCGL for 13 years and has 1 GCCGL Championship to his name. Then comes along, rookie Brady Gosney and he achieves this monumental life accomplishment in 1 year. This must be embarrassing for old KK. He’s not getting any younger these days and the more time that passes each year without another coveted GCCGL Championship, the more everyone will start to wonder if it will be another 13 years before KK holds his next GCCGL trophy. #playbetterkk!

Trophies will be ordered in the coming weeks and the GCCGL Awards Luncheon will be scheduled shortly.

It truly was a pleasure running this league and hanging out with all of you the past 20+ weeks. Based on the texts and emails I received from many of you, it seems that everyone had a great time and a lot of fun this season. I truly hope that is the case. A BIG, HUGE thanks to Cupcake and LG. I really can’t thank them enough. As everyone knows, outside of the website and some administrative duties, PW doesn’t do much regarding the GCCGL these days. Those two guys do ALL the heavy lifting during the golf league season. They really help me out. Without them, this league does not exist. I know we kid each other during the season but that’s only because we know that we can. And let’s face it, it’s good entertainment for the GCCGL members. So, THANK YOU Jason and Kurt for everything! I’m looking forward to the 30th anniversary of the GCCGL next year. Thirty years. Man, that is really hard for me to fathom. I was in my late twenties when I started this league. So much has changed during the 30 years but this league is still going, and I hope it continues to keep going long after I’m gone. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, there have been many relationships and friendships that have formed as a result of the little golf league of ours. There are many people that many of us never would have gotten to know if not for our get-togethers every Thursday night in the Spring and Summer in beautiful Northern Kentucky. That is the single most thing that I’m proud of that has come out of the GCCGL.

We have some new and exciting changes for the 30th anniversary of the GCCGL. We can’t wait to share them with you! If you plan on playing full-time next year, please let us know. If there are any subs that want to play full-time instead of subbing, please let us know and we’ll add you to the waiting list.

We hope to see everyone again next year for the official 30th season of the best damn golf league in the Midwest.
