2023 – Opening Tee
The start of the 28th season of the GCCGL is almost here! Meet your 2023 GCCGL teams! The official start date to the season is 4/20 but there is one more pre-season round on 4/13! I will not be there as I’m traveling for business and a little pleasure. New members are encouraged to come out to get in as many scores to help calculate your handicap. Please email Jason Nill or Kurt Kreyling if you are going to play in the 2nd practice round. Also, PLEASE PAY YOUR DUES AND GET YOUR TEAMS NAMES INTO JASON “CUPCAKE” NILL BY WEDNESDAY!
First and foremost, I’d like to thank Kurt “Lip Gloss” Kreyling for taking his sweet time to organize the draft. Nothing like waiting 13 days before Opening Tee to pick your teams. Now, instead of packing and getting ready for my trip, I’m sitting in front of my computer trying to do my annual predictions on the 2023 GCCGL season with no team names or nothing. So, I thought to myself, “Since KK left me no freakin’ time to do a thorough analysis because he was off getting married….again and starting a new job……again, how can I find the time to create quality content that is deserving of the best damn golf league this side of the Mississippi?” And then it hit me like a perfectly timed backswing fart by our beloved co-commissioner Cupcake, Artificial Intelligence! Why not use AI to predict this season’s 2023 GCCGL? I am a God damn genius!

We have a 9-hole golf league. There are 6 teams with 4 players on each team. Each team consists of four flights, A,B,C and D with A being the lower handicap player and D being the highest handicap player. Below are the teams with the following statistics; Point Average per match, Winning Percentage, Handicap and number of matches played. The league is 20 weeks long with 15 weeks of Match Play. The Match Play is scored on a 10 point system each week. Any player with N/A for Points or Winning Percentage indicates a NEW player for the season. Based on the match play statistics below, what will be the standings at the end of the season? Team Crowe consists of the following players: Crowe 5.3 points, 0.577 winning pct, 8 handicap, 13 matches played Kreyling 5.0 points, 0.500, winning pct, 2 handicap, 13 matches played Rayburn 4.7 points, 0.423, winning pct, 10 handicap, 13 matches played Allen 4.5 points, 0.250, winning pct, 11 handicap, 12 matches played Team Roddy consists of the following players: Roddy 5.1 points, 0.500, winning pct, 6 handicap, 13 matches played Roller 4.7 points, 0.500, winning pct, 3 handicap, 13 matches played Bloomhuff 3.1points, N/A winning pct, 8 handicap, 4 matches played Welling N/A points, N/A winning pct, 13 handicap, N/A matches played Team Etheridge consists of the following players: Ethridge 6.1 points, 0.769 winning pct, 6 handicap, 13 matches played Wells 4.7 points, 0.464 winning pct, 1 handicap, 14 matches played Almeida 5.3 points, 0.615 winning pct, 9 handicap, 13 matches played Leininger 5.9 points, 0.769 winning pct, 10 handicap, 13 matches played Team Morell consists of the following players: Morell 5.2 points, 0.550 winning pct, 5 handicap, 10 matches played Nixon 5.3 points, 0.577 winning pct, 2 handicap, 13 matches played Capannari 4.5 points, 0.464 winning pct, 9 handicap, 14 matches played Winkler N/A points, N/A winning pct, 15 handicap, N/A matches played Team Nill consists of the following players: Nill 5.0 points, 0.583 winning pct, 5 handicap, 12 matches played Goldenberg 4.3 points, 0.259 winning pct, 3 handicap, 13 matches played Tally N/A points, N/A winning pct, 8 handicap, N/A matches played Livermore 4.4 points, 0.467 winning pct, 9 handicap, 15 matches played Team Bedell consists of the following players: Bedell 5.4 points, 0.643 winning pct, 4 handicap, 14 matches played Duer 5.3 points, 0.583 winning pct, 3 handicap, 12 matches played Parvesse 6.0 points, 0.650 winning pct, 8 handicap, 10 matches played Grainger N/A points N/A winning pct, 13 handicap, N/A matches played |

To determine the standings at the end of the season, we need to calculate the total points earned by each team based on their match play results, and then rank the teams based on the total points earned. Since there are 6 teams with 4 players on each team, there are a total of 24 players in the league. For each team, we need to calculate the total points earned by summing up the points earned by each player in each match. First, let’s calculate the total points earned by each player in each team:
Next, we need to calculate the total points earned by each team by summing up the points earned by all their players:
Now we can rank the teams based on their total points earned:
Note that Roddy and Nill have the same number of points, but Roddy wins the tiebreaker because they have a higher winning percentage. Therefore, the standings at the end of the season would be:

Now based on the handicaps of each player on each team, calculate the estimated number of Team Scramble points each team will have at the end of the season. There are 5 Team scrambles and each scramble win can be worth up to 25 team points for the winner, 20 team points for 2nd place, 15 team points for 3rd place, 10 team points for 4th place, 5 team points for 5th place and 0 points for 6th place. Team Scrambles can finish tied and therefore would split the points. |

To calculate the estimated number of Team Scramble points each team will have at the end of the season, we need to use the handicaps of each player on each team to determine the estimated number of points each team will earn in the Team Scrambles.
Here’s the calculation for each team: Team Crowe: Estimated Team Scramble Points = (1/8 + 1/2 + 1/10 + 1/11) * 25 = 8.12 points Team Roddy: Estimated Team Scramble Points = (1/6 + 1/3 + 1/8) * 25 = 5.73 points Team Etheridge: Estimated Team Scramble Points = (1/6 + 1/1 + 1/9 + 1/10) * 25 = 9.33 points Team Morell: Estimated Team Scramble Points = (1/5 + 1/2 + 1/9) * 25 = 8.67 points Team Nill: Estimated Team Scramble Points = (1/5 + 1/3 + 1/9) * 25 = 7.22 points Team Bedell: Estimated Team Scramble Points = (1/4 + 1/3 + 1/8) * 25 = 8.59 points So the estimated number of Team Scramble points for each team are:
Note that these are just estimates based on the handicaps of each player on each team and may not be entirely accurate, as the performance of each team in the Team Scrambles will also depend on other factors such as course conditions and weather. |

That is perfect. Now add this to the Match Play points and then calculate the standings. |

Sure, here are the final standings:
Note: In case of a tie in the final standings, tiebreaker rules may be used to determine the final order of the teams. |

Wonderful! Based on all this information, can you predict the player who will have the most Points at the end of the season and the Player who will have the best winning percentage? |
Chat GPT |
Based on the information provided, it’s difficult to predict with certainty which player will have the most points at the end of the season or which player will have the best winning percentage.
However, I can provide some insights based on the statistics provided. For most points, players like Crowe, Etheridge, and Bedell seem to have consistently performed well in both match play and team scrambles. Similarly, for best winning percentage, players like Ethridge, Leininger, and Parvesse seem to have a high percentage of wins in match play. Ultimately, it will depend on how well these players perform in the remaining weeks of the season and whether they continue to maintain their current level of performance. |
So, there you have it! Chatty says Team Crowe will win the 2023 GCCGL Championship. And in case you are wondering, this is 100% real! I did NOT make this up. If you are not on the AI bandwagon, then I suggest you dig deep into your closets, pull out those old 80’s shit-kickers and hop on to the AI bandwagon cause it is here to stay! With that said, we hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ’em straight!
