2022 – Week 3

I can’t figure it out. Why the slow start?
Week 2 of match play is in the books and the league (overall) is off to a slow start.

48 rounds of golf.
ZERO Rounds in the 30’s (Gross).
A/B’s Only 3 rounds of net par or better.
C/D’s 9 rounds of net part of better.

The good news? We switch to the High School Girls course this week.

There are a few guys playing well to start the season.
Palamino Nicks’ off to hot start and playing like a #1 Draft Pick. He’s 2-0 and tied for 2nd in points.

Dahm… what can you say. His game is like cross between Sergio and Jesus. He’s following up his rookie of the year effort with a 2-0 start and tied for 2nd in points.

Andy Crowe… Not only is he off to a 2-0 start and leading the league in points, his victory this week gives him the 15 he needs to be solidly in the HOF conversation. Additionally, that same win moves Andy into a tie for 47th place in all time wins.

A quick sidebar to the HOF blog last week. Several people went out of their way this week to inform me that although Andy may meet the criteria to be eligible for consideration… “he still has to get the votes”.
Ok. I get that… but don’t hate the player, hate the game. Andy didn’t make the rules. You may not agree with the criteria of “3 wins per year for 5 years”, but why penalize him?

Now… back to (short) blog (this week).
Several players, on the flip side, are off to “rough” starts (no pun intended).
Johnny “Syndrome” Rayburn is off to an 0-2 start with losses to Ken Glaser and Dahm.

The popular pick of “Rookie of the Year”, Ryan “Korn Ferry” McCrone is also off to an 0-2 start losing to Jason Nill and Matt Bedell… but nobody has been worse than yours truly.

Wednesday, after a god-awful range session, I sent a text to Duer, Roller and Rayburn that simply said “I’ve hit rock bottom. At least I hope it’s rock bottom”.

Well… it wasn’t. Thursday, I LOST TO A BLIND PERSON. Read that again.

Pete Goldenberg broke his glasses on the 3rd hole Thursday. Over the next few holes, he tried wearing them, but they just kept sliding off or around his face during the swing. He was visibly frustrated. By the end, he had taken them completely off. He would hit the ball as best he could and ask his playing partner, Cousin’ Joe, where his ball went. He still beat me.

It’s at time’s like this that I always remember the advice my High School Basketball Coach gave me when I was thinking about quitting.

“Look Mike, I know what you’re going through. Couple of years back, a kid came to me just like you’re coming to me now, saying the same things your saying. He wanted to quit the team. His mother was a widow, all crippled up. She was scrubbing floors just to make ends meet. She had a pin in her hip. So, he wanted to drop basketball and get a job. Now these were poor people with real problems. You understand what I’m saying”?

“ok… What happened to the kid, coach”?

“I don’t know. He quit. He was a 3rd stringer. I didn’t need him”.

Always Drink Responsibly… but in honor of the Kentucky Derby this week, here are rumors about drinking in the GCCGL this year, that I also think would make good Horse Names.
Bourbon in the Bag
Drunk on the 1st Tee
Shotgun Warrior
Designated Drinker
Birdie Juice

Shout out to Cousin Joe Cook for subbing this week. Because of our subs, through 3 weeks, we still have perfect attendance.

Sorry for the short blog this week. With this being “Mother’s Day” I had more important things to do.

Speaking of Mother’s Day… Happy Mother’s Day to the Golf Angel, Melissa Cember and if she still reads the blog, shout out to Danielle Lickert-Hays (former member and sub). I hope you both a great day.

Please note the addition of the @GCCGLCommish Twitter Feed on the right side bar. This will be the last  amount of work done by PW for the year. We leave you with this instructional video of how NOT to open your newly purchased golf push cart. You’ll want to watch this if you haven’t already.

Until next week…

Golf is Hard.
If it were easy, it’d be called “your mom”.
