2022 – Week 19
The final week of match play is in the books! That was a fast 19 weeks. It’s hard t believe the 2022 GCCGL season is almost over. But what is even harder to believe is that Kurt “Lip Gloss” Kreyling is poised to win his first GCCGL Championship in 11 seasons! Wow! This is big news! Assuming LG stays on this torrid pace of 1 Championship per every 11 years, that means that Kurt would tie Mike “Big Donkey” Harris’ championships record (8) by the time he turns 113 years old. And that is assuming LG is 36 years old which I’m pretty sure he’s not. There’s no way he’s 20 years younger than I am, is he? I’m getting old.
I’m writing this blog post the day before vacation (which I NEVER do) only because LG deserves it. He’s waited 11 years for this moment and it is finally here. Sure we still have one week left in the season but his team, The Booze Rattlers, has a 19.5 point lead over Nixon’s Double D’s going into the final scramble. The Booze Rattlers would have to finish 5th or worse in the final scramble of the year while the Double D’s finish in first place outright. It could still happen, but it is highly unlikely.
As everyone knows, Lip Gloss and Cupcake have been joined at the hip for the last decade. They have been on the same team together, get this, 8 out of 11 seasons! I mean come on. Look, I know Cupcake is prettier than a fair amount of the female population you normally find on NKY public golf courses, but damn Kurt, you gotta mix things up a little pal! Here’s a “fun fact”, did you know that the last time Cupcake won a GCCGL Championship was way back in 2011? That was the same year Lip Gloss joined the GCCGL. Coincidence? I think not. As much as those two would like to think they belong together, they’re completely mistaken. It took just over a decade for LG to drop Cupcake like a bad habit and the minute he does, what happens? He’s on the precipice of winning his first GCCGL trophy. All famous power couples eventually break up, Sonny and Cher, Simon and Garfunkel, Hall and Oats and now, Lip Gloss and Cupcake.
But it’s not all about Lip Gloss. Cupcake’s team is in 2nd place with an outside chance of stealing a GCCGL Championship with a colossal collapse by the Booze Rattlers. So it seems these two are better off on separate teams than together. The B Players are the captains in next year’s draft. The question is, will Cupcake select Lip Gloss if he is still on the board or has he learned his lesson? We’ll see.
It looks like the rumors of the GCCGL mass exodus were just that, rumors. Fake news. Propaganda spread by the liberal and conservative media to smear the GCCGL and reek havoc on our little harmonious golf league. After everything was said and done, just about all members are returning except for the Golf Angel who just can’t find a reliable baby sitter and Kevin Klein who decided to up and move to Wisconsin? Did I hear that right? Wisconsin? Who moves to Wisconsin? There are about 48 other states I’d rather move to than Wisconsin. To me, Wisconsin ranks barely above Louisiana and Mississippi. But hey, they have cheese up.
So Kurt, let me be the first to congratulate you on what looks to be your first ever GCCGL Championship! It is long overdue and well deserved, However, if you somehow screw this up, you suck.
I want to take the time to thank my fellow co-commissioners, Kurt and Jason, for everything they do for this league. It really takes a lot of hours (personal time) to run this league. I for one am recommitted to blogging more regularly and finding new ways to keep this wonderful league of ours fun and entertaining, yet mildly competitive. I seriously appreciate all their efforts and would not be doing this if not for them. So THANK YOU! Also, I want to thank each and every one of you who play as full-time members and substitutes. You are the ones that really make this league what it is today. I’m looking forward to an exciting 28th season in 2023. Have a great Fall and Winter!
