2021 – Week Sixteen
PW is back! But don’t get used to it…. I’m just filling in for Big Donkey while he’s out galivanting all over Vegas with Snoodles, Potter and Syndrome. Let’s be honest here. Big Donkey has done a great….no…..a FANTASTIC job as the GCCGL blogger this season, hasn’t he? Way better than I could have ever done. Let’s face it, I ran out of blog material sometime midway through the 2019 season, which coincidentally was the last time Crowe won a match. ZING! Ouch. Sorry Andy, Snoodles made me say that. Big Donkey is funnier than I am. He knows considerably more about the game of golf than I do and quite frankly he is a born natural when it comes to playing and writing about this wonderful sport of ours.
When BD left for Vegas, I knew that I would have to most likely step in and quickly start digging for material for this week’s blog. The angst and pain, just knowing that I would have to sit down and come up with something…..anything to blog about, caused such physical anxiety for PW that I began drafting my resignation letter to the GCCGL Commissioner’s office just so I wouldn’t have to show my face again. I had the letter drafted and was ready to send it but I couldn’t find a sub to fill in for me the last 4 weeks so I cancelled that plan and now you’re stuck reading this garbage.
I didn’t even have any time this weekend to dedicate to this blog. I was out of town all weekend. That’s right. While Big Donkey was out strolling the Vegas strip at all hours of the night, the closest I got to Vegas was brushin’ elbows with senior citizens at the Old West Desert display at the Fort Wayne, Indiana Botanical Garden. While Big Donkey, Snoodles, Potter and Syndrome filled their bellies with juicy steak at a 4-star restaurant, I was deciding whether to force down a second large coney with jalapeño cheese. I decided to have the 2nd coney. By the way, that was a big miscalculation on my part, especially when you are sharing a hotel room with your wife and two adult daughters. But I digress.
Yes, it is true that I spent good money on a weekend in Fort Wayne, IN. It wasn’t the best 40 hours I’ve spent in my life, but it wasn’t the worst either. I’m not even going to get into how there was no toilet paper in the room when we first arrived, and that the refrigerator was broken and I couldn’t get maintenance to replace the fridge until I had to walk down to the hotel lobby and basically grab the maintenance guy by his blue overalls and drag his ass to my room to replace the unit. To their credit, the fridge was finally replaced….. at 11PM. Oh…….and the next morning when I went to toast my bagel, the toaster didn’t work. But I’m not going to bore you with any of that. I’d rather talk about golf. I know many of you won’t believe me that I actually spent hard earned cash on a lost weekend in Fort Wayne, so here is proof.
There are four weeks left in the 2021 season and we have a beauty of a finish shaping up. All the stars aligned and all the right buttons were pressed last week. Dustined to Fail were the big winners destroying Designated Drivers (24.5 – 15.5). They were led by Cupcake and Ollie who both grabbed 6.5 points. Aces Ventura and Jerry’s Kids pounced their opponents Rollin’ 60’s and Good if it Joe’s (23 – 17). They were led by Dahm (Aces Ventura) and J. Allen/Swiper (Jerry’s Kids) who had 6.5 points each. After the smoke cleared, the top three teams are only separated by 9.5 points! It is anyone’s championship!
The low net winners this week were Cupcake (A/B) with a low net 33 and Dahm (C/D) also with a low net of 33. Congratulations to the winners. This week is the “gimmicky” BattleGolf event. Will this be the last season of BattelGolf? Who knows. All I know is that I’ve been practicing and I’m automatic on the green from 6 inches with my 7-iron. We are on the back of the Pioneer. We hope to see you there and as always, hit ‘em straight!
PS: Cupcake, I demand you reset the “Days since PW did any work” counter!
