2021 – Week Fourteen
I shot a 37 Thursday Night… and lost (again).
1 player in the A/B group netted a lower score. It was Jason Nill. I played Jason Nill.
Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all
Gloom, despair and agony on me
For those of you not familiar with the above verse… it comes from the TV Show “Hee Haw” which aired from 1969 to 1993 then again from 1996 to 1997 for a total of 23 seasons.
For those of you keeping score at home (and by “those of you” I mean Ethridge)… that is the 4th time this season I played the low net winner.
Week 3 – Danny Roller
Week 7 – Peter Goldenberg
Week 9 – Joe Cook
Week 14 – Jason Nill
The real reason I bring this up is because, as most of you know by now, we leave for Vegas in 10 days.
Las Vegas, as you might guess, is not a good place to be when you’re down on your luck.
What can I do? I need some ideas. I need some tips. What can I do to secure the “luck of the Irish”. What can I do to have some of that Ethridge luck rub off on me? I need to reverse 52 years of bad luck in 10 days. Contact me with any suggestions. Please. I’m serious.
Speaking of Vegas. We leave for the 2-Day, 4-Man Best Ball Scramble at the America’s Golf Festival on Wednesday August 4th.
We’re encouraging everyone to bring $5 dollars on Thursday. This week Jason Nill will send out a survey with 5 bets to vote on. Which ever bet gets the most votes, Danny Roller is going to place that bet in Vegas on Saturday August 7th. I’ll collect the money this Thursday if you are interested in participating. Additionally, if you have any single bets you’d like us to place on your behalf, please bring that money and whatever bet you’d like and we’ll take care of that for you.

T.W.I.G. Notes
With 6 weeks to go, things are tight at the top. Hoping to Tie (formerly Jerry’s Kids) are hanging on to a 2-point lead over the Rollin’ 60’s. It’s also time for some of you to put up or shut up. I’ve heard from MULTIPLE people this year (and in years past) stating that they simply prefer match-play and they’d rather have match-play every week of the season and no team events. Well, the next 5 weeks are all match-play. We do not have another team even until the final scramble in week 20, so I’m expecting a major shift from those teams near the bottom of the standings…
The current standings are as follows:
Hoping to Tie: 289.0
Rollin’ 60’s: 287.0
Dustined to Fail: 275.5
Aces Ventura: 270.0

WORD ON THE RANGE:
There is no “word on the range” this week because I was kicked off the range by one of the many friendly workers at Kenton County.
I made the decision to hit off the mats this week instead of hitting off the dirt. BIG mistake. About halfway through my warm-up bucket, the tall young dark-haired guy (I don’t know his name) told me that I was not allowed to use the mats. Apparently, the mats are for Junior Golf School ONLY. The issue I have with that, is there was no Junior Golf School happening on Thursday evening. When I pointed that out, he did not respond and went back inside.
So that story quickly spiraled into “why are you hitting of mats anyway” and “you’re not gonna be hitting of mats on the course”. Fair enough.
However, if the grass range looked like this…
… I would be in 100% agreement. But the grass area at Kenton County (and most golf courses we play) look much more like this:
And this:
So my reply to you is this… when do you hit off hard dirt areas on the course?
The one thing I do like about hitting off mats is this… You get the same lie every time which allows you to build a repeatable swing. There are certainly “pros” to hitting off grass, but remember, we’re not talking about grass. At Kenton County we’re talking about dirt.
Final Thoughts:
The servers at Twin Peaks will shame you if you purchase a small beer instead of large. Here’s the Assasin’s bill from Thursday as proof.
A couple of weeks back, we saw where Andy Crowe was without any logo’s on his golf attire.
Well, I decided to do some digging and here’s what I found. Apparently Andy has lost all of his sponsors due to that little incident at the White House in January.
Golf is Hard.
If it were easy, it’d be called “your mom”.
