2020 – Week One

The 25th anniversary GCCGL season is finally underway! We had a perfect turnout and near perfect weather minus the winds. It was downright blustery Thursday evening which made for a tough night scoring-wise. The Florida Scramble is a tough scramble to begin with. It is designed to neutralize a foursome’s best player by forcing the other three members to pick up the slack when the best player in the foursome is lacing 250 yard drives consistently down the middle. It also makes for a quick round of golf since you are essentially playing a three-man scramble most of the time. This is why I really like the format and why it is a perfect way to start the GCCGL season every year.

Ironically, the team that should have been affected most by the Florida Scramble format, wound up winning with a score of EVEN par. The last time a team won a scramble in the GCCGL with a score of EVEN  par was way back in 2013 and of course, it was also the Florida Scramble. It just goes to show you how tough the format is, especially when conditions are less than desirable. The results were as follows:

First Even
Second (Tied) +1
Second (Tied) +1
Second (Tied) +1
Last +2

The GCCGL 2020 favorite, Cupcake Exotics, were a bit of a surprise finishing dead last. That’s why you PLAY THE GAME! Other than the windy conditions, nothing much happened this past week. My family read last week’s GCCGL blog post and loved the Corona Pics of Cletus, Swiper and The Assassin. My wife really liked Serkan’s hairdo! She said, and I quote, “I love this guy and I don’t even know him. Let the fro grow!” Should I be worried?

The Corona Virus has reeked havoc and desperation all over the world and there really isn’t a whole lot to laugh about concerning this unprecedented time in history but I came across the video below and it made me laugh really hard. I’m glad to see that Americans haven’t lost their sense of humor. So, I  leave you with the following Corona Virus Horse Race video. Make sure you have your sound up. If you haven’t seen this yet, at the very least, it will most definitely put a smile on your face.

The CTP winners were (A/B) Lipgloss and (C/D) PW. Although my CTP came as close as it could come to rolling off the green but it stayed on and Crowe wound up making the birdie putt to win the scramble. We play on the Pioneer front this Thursday. The schedule is set! I hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ‘em straight!
