2020 – Pre-season Wk3

Well, April 23rd, the original start of the GCCGL season, came and went. Massive earthquakes did not crack the world’s foundation and tilt the planet on its axis. Giant tsunamis did not sweep away cars, buildings and entire families. Typhoon winds and hailstorms did not send millions for cover. The GCCGL did not play and the world is still here.  I mention this because you would not have thought that was the case after the barrage of texts, hate mail, threats and the flaming paper bag of dog dookie left on my doorstep after announcing the delay of the GCCGL season last week. OK, OK, I might be exaggerating but PW did come under heavy fire last week receiving dozens of angry “anonymous” texts. But that’s OK. The Portuguese people are not only a peaceful nationality, we are also thick skinned. I’m very confident it was the right decision. It was a tough decision that had to be made. The easy thing to do would have been to not do anything.

With that said, everyone had the opportunity to come out and play a round of golf if they wanted to, but not a single person did except for Lipgloss, Cupcake and PW. We were the only people in the parking lot. We noticed a couple of old farts putzing around the course towards the end of the round, but that was it. Not a single league in site. The GCCGL was the ONLY league with any representation, but that doesn’t surprise me. It was wet but for the most part, it turned out to be a very nice evening. We’ve certainly played in worse. Hopefully many of you will come out next week if the weather is better. Speaking of playing during inclement weather, embedded into the fabric of the GCCGL culture and one of the reasons for the GCCGL creed, “It’s not just a golf league”, it is well known that if the golf course is open, then we are playing. I’m glad to announce that the new management at the Kenton County Golf Course has adopted the same philosophy. I know this because I posed this question to management and received confirmation. This is great news.

KCGC is starting to allow golf carts in the coming days. You will only be allowed to rent single carts, you cannot share carts during the COVID-19 restrictions. You can read all about this in the Letter to League Coordinators. Make no mistake, things will be different for a while until this whole coronavirus blows over. You will need to pay for your rounds by calling the Kenton County Golf Course as opposed to paying in the clubhouse. No food or drink will be served. Please do not bring your own alcoholic beverages, this is prohibited. They let go of everyone from the old staff. As far as I can tell, the new management is going to be more stringent than the old regime. Time will tell as to whether this will be a good thing or not but for now, they seem to be nice people. The course is in pretty good shape, but it has been raining a lot lately so pretty much every course is probably is great shape. The sand traps are all redone but due to the COVID-19 restrictions, there are no rakes so please remove any balls from the traps during this timeframe. The flagsticks stay in. There is to be no congregating after the round so you will need to take a picture of your score card and text/email it to co-commissioner Cupcake. However, the golf range is OPEN! I’m not sure about the practice green. It is all laid out in the Letter to League Coordinators.

The 2020 GCCGL Schedule is set! Thanks Cupcake! It will be an 18-week season. We extended the season one week in order to keep all the GCCGL special events and scrambles. Sorry Couzin’ Joe, the Florida Scramble stays.

Remember, all subs are welcome to play the next two weeks of practice rounds. Just let me know if you plan on playing. We leave you with a short video of PW’s first putt in 2020. It wasn’t pretty. I hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ‘em straight!

There was nothing “anonymous” about my opinion. And last time I checked there are many worse opinions in this leagues history than mine of we should not suspend the league for this “CHINA VIRUS”. I used my real name in the text chain and I used my nickname in my blog comments. I think the 3 wise men do a great job and I back them on 98/100 decisions they make. One decisions just happens to be this one and other being that stupid ass Florida scramble event which has me questionable for week 1 every season. Last but not… Read more »

The smart people played on Wednesday when the weather was perfect.

Not sure why you would wait to play a meaningless round when the weather for Thursday was forecast to and did in fact suck.
