2019 – Week 15
Brought to you by PW and Syndrome
Good day fellow hackers. Boy do we have a treat for you. You get two “blogs” for the price of one this week. The first part is from PW. I didn’t put a whole lot of effort into it but it was something. The second part is from Syndrome who is getting better and better at this blogging thing. So here we go.
PW
A lot has happened since the last time PW has blogged. The first-place team’s once comfortable lead has shriveled down to a precarious few points. Nick Potter Duer got a new dog of his own, an adorable little black and white Bulldog-Shih Tzu mix (a Bulshiht). Captain Obvious changed hair color to a vibrant auburn chestnut. PW has added lower back issues to go with his Plantar Fasciitis, groin pull and right shoulder ailments this season. And actor Charles Levin, my favorite character actor on Seinfeld, was found dead. RIP.
I really do apologize for the missed blogs but life and work (mostly work) have gotten in the way. It has been very difficult finding an hour or two to devote to anything other than the job and/or family responsibilities. I will try to post the rest of the way, but I can’t promise anything.
We are 75% through the 2019 GCCGL season. Only 5 weeks remain. I wasn’t there of course but by all accounts, the Battle Golf event was another success. I’m curious as to what the GCCGL members think of Battle Golf. Do you like it? Has it run its course? This is the first time I’ve missed this event. It has been a lot of fun over the last several years but lately I’ve been hearing grumbles about it and, it is impossible to come up with a rule in the case of absent members who were unable to get a sub for this event. If you have something to say, then say it in the comments. The GCCGL commissioner’s office is anything, if not receptive, to your suggestions and criticism.
The big winners this week were I’d Tap That (23.5 pts). They were led by Cupcake who nabbed 8 points. Finishing right behind them was Wrath of Serkan (22.5 pts). They were led by substitute Junker who stole 8.5 points. The low net winners were Potter/Junker (A/B) with a low net 30 and Cupcake (C/D) who slid down into the C/D category this week with a low net of 29. It’s interesting how Cupcake’s handicap never goes down isn’t it? I’m not insinuating anything, I’m just saying that it’s “interesting”. Great rounds guys and congratulations!
SYNDROME
Battle Golf – from someone who was actually there. (No disrespect, PW, I am sure whatever you had that kept you from golf was very important).
It was another beautiful night for golf and surprisingly, there was no one in front of us. So, the first group teed off almost 15 minutes early. I’m guessing that was the reason that once again, there was a huge gap between I think the 3rd and 4th groups. It was close to 15 minutes and yet somehow the three pitchers of beer did not run out. Weakest beer consumption I have seen in a long time from this band of mutants. Step it up, boys.
Beautiful weather aside, it was tough golfing for some members. Apparently, Kreyling was so angry with his MOW success factor that he harmed himself somehow before the match in an attempt to avoid facing the scrutiny of the rest of the league. It’s ok, KK, it gets better…just ask Roller. (No, that’s not a sweat stain in the left picture. Apparently, I cast a large shadow.)
Congratulations to Morell for reproducing which kept him from playing. Although, the general consensus was that nobody even knew he was married. Domestic partner, sure, that’s believable. But married??? Strange times indeed. No Pete. No Roller. And the dream team heading to Vegas next week. Quiet times for the old league.
PW already covered the high level results, but how about the success rate for first club stolen. I’m actually surprised it hasn’t been closer to 100% the whole time. People really seem to struggle putting without a putter. They also seem to fear hitting tee shots without a driver. Mr Shenanigans (Ollie) pulled the old 2 drivers in the bag trick…although he ultimately caved in and teed off with a 3 wood which he promptly drubbed to the white tee. Karma is alive and well.
One last observation: 50% of the league over par on the Pioneer. Heading back to the Willows next week. How bad is that going to be. Are people tired? Giving up? Stay tuned…and be ready for some great stories from the Clark County Detention Center. I hope they let me bring my Go-Pro but based on watching Cops, I doubt it.
So there you have it. Thanks JR! We continue match play on the Willow front this week. If you can’t make it, please give one of our subs a chance to play. We hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ‘em straight!

No secret I cant stand 2 weeks a yr. #1 Florida scramble to me just inst a great event to start the season. Move it and Id be fine with it. #2 no secret here I am officially the worst Battle Golfer of all time…stats back that up. What is extraordinary is most who have played me would back me up im a great putter even without my putter for 9 holes. Must be all the practice I get each yr. My suggestion is replacing battle golf with a 3 club challenge. Each league member picks 3 clubs from his… Read more »
