2016 – Can you feel it?

phil2Ah….the breeze is slight, the air is warm and the mulch outside smells like the GCC locker room. There’s a buzz in the GCC hallways along with a little extra “imp” in Cletus’ gimp. There’s one thing all of us have to admit, Punxsutawney Phil is the Master Prognosticator. He predicted an early Spring and here it is!  The GCCGL roster is set. We have four new full-time members this season. A big welcome to Jon Schemmel, Adam Schott, Mike Tucker and Brian Turnwald! The following have dropped down to substitute status, Gregg Szylakowski, Melissa Cember. Sadly, Danielle “Golf Witch” Lickert had to leave the league as she embarks on her life in my old stomping grounds of southern Jersey. We thank them for their contributions to the GCCGL as full-time members and look forward to supporting them as they start their new GCCGL careers as subs. Speaking of subs, please welcome several new subtitutes to the GCCGL family.

The GCCGL Winter Meetings were a monumental success. We actually got some work done and no one was arrested. Here are some of the changes for the 2016 season:

  • New starting tee time of 5:16 pm
This may allow us to add an additional team next season and also keeps the clubhouse from adding walkons in front of us.
  • The blog has been optimized for mobile devices. Now you can easily navigate GCCGL.com on your phone! Go ahead and try it!
We did the best we can with the mobile version given what we have. Look for changes to the look, feel and functionality of the GCCGL blog in the near future.
  • Expansion to a full 20 weeks with the 21st week reserved for Best ball Scramble rain makeup
  • A new Special Event has been added, US Open Match Play in honor of the US Open Championship
No rolling the ball, no “gimmie” puts, not even tap ins, provisionals must be played off the tee, etc.
  • A new Scramble has made the rotation. Pink Ball will be back as a permanent event
  • The String Ball scramble has been dropped from the rotation
  • You can now share GCCGL posts with your friends and colleagues by selecting the various Share buttons

It should be another fun, eventful and exciting year. And with 2016 being an election year, there should be plenty to talk about on those slow blog days. Don’t worry, I’m not one to preach my political views for all to see but I will admit that I did pick up a Marco Rubio sign on the way home the other night………….it was in the trash. Bada-bump ching!

We would love for all our members to contribute and comment. We have a lot of smart, funny and witty people in this league. All we ask is that you keep things respectful.

Just a reminder, the Hall of Fame balloting commences March 18th and we may have a surprise or two brewing. The draft is just a few weeks away. We hope you are as excited as we are to start another season and make GCCGL history. Stay tuned.
