Kreyling Korner – Week 5 – May 16, 2024

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

The Vanilla Gorilla picks up the W over Welling in Week 4 and just like that, LG is back to 1-1.  As the Quad City DJ’s would say Come on ride the train…hey ride it.

Week 5 MOW – Jason “Cupcake” Nill vs Brian “The Senator” Roddy

When I look at week 5, two matches strike me as MOW worthy.  First, you have Almeida and Leininger. They have matched up 4 times (first ever in 2019) and have a lifetime split at 2-2.  What makes this even more interesting is that both of these gentlemen are off to strong starts in the 2024 season.  George is 2-1 and sits number 3 on the points leaderboard with 17; Ben is also 2-1 and sits fourth on the points leaderboard with 16.5.

As good as Dahmer and PW will be, Cupcake vs The Senator gets the nod.  The main reason this sticks out to me is because Cupcake absolutely owns Roddy.  Lifetime, these two have matched up 8 times (first ever in 2014) and Roddy has NEVER managed a win over Jason.  In fact, he’s tied the ageless wonder only 1 time!  That’s right – Jason’s record against Roddy is 7-0-1.  In 2024 Nill is 0-1 with only 4 points (I can’t even call it an average because he’s only played one time); Roddy is 1-1-1, averaging 4.8 points per match.

GLOSSY PREDICTION –Let’s address the elephant in the room here.  Cupcake has played 1 time through 4 weeks, an attendance percentage of 25%.  This abysmal attendance percentage tells me one thing – SOME of us in this league are getting old.  Cupcake NEVER misses league play unless his kids have some sort of conflict.  And Roddy, you aren’t exempt either because the last time we played we were talking about how your son was doing in his freshman year of high school.  I remember the days when we were swapping stories about our sons first attempts at tee-ball.  What does this have to do with golf, nothing.  I just want to point out that Cupcake is old when you newbies look at him and think he’s 35.  Anyway, Jason hasn’t played at all this year and he only gets 1 stroke on the front of Pioneer.  No way he pulls this off tonight.  The Senator wins 6-4.

KREYLING KORNER

Step-Sons Got Game

Short on time this week, so I’m only hitting you with one Kreyling Korner topic.  This past Sunday, my step-son’s wanted to take their mom golfing for Mother’s Day.  Mrs. Lip Gloss is playing a LOT more golf this year and even joined a league on Thursday nights at Kenton County.  Maybe I can convince her to come have a beer with the GCCGL at some point…but I’m not holding my breath.  Anyway, she was happy to play with her kids and yours truly so we teed off on hole number 1 of the Willows at 8:00 AM.  I’m not going to give you a rundown of the entire round, but Matt and Charlie definitely deserve a shot out in this week’s blog because Charlie (11 years old) shot an 87 from the red tees and Matt (14) shot an 85 from the yellow tees.  Yes, the same yellow tees that the old men of the GCCGL play.  It was seriously impressive and I told them after the round they would have beat just about everyone in our league.  And for those of you wondering…they did NOT beat old LG. I shot an 81!
