Kreyling Korner – Week #5 – June 11, 2020
THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK
I broke my rules last week and put Nixon in the MOW. After doing so, Captain Cupcake sent me an email that simply read, Love the trending, but as you know, I am not in agreement with Nixon in the MOW. Boy was he right, Nixon fires a gross 39, net 34 and gets…2.5 points. Cap ends up shooting a gross 45 and a net 27. That’s about as unlucky as anyone can get. The 2020 MOW record goes to 2-1.
Week 5 MOW – Joe “Boot Boy” Eiser vs. Mike “Meat” Morell – I like this match over some great parings in Week 5. I’m not breaking my rule of picking a teammate again so CJ vs. LG (2-3-1) and Cupcake vs. the Politician (1-2) are out. Duer vs. Harris is intriguing, but 2-8 is pretty-lopsided so I’m tossing that one. Boot Boy vs. Morell at 1-2 all time might be lacking in history, but the excitement is more than made up for in current year form. Eiser comes into week 5 at 2-1, averaging 5.3 points. A very respectable start to the season and one of the major reasons his team, Gout My Fairway 2.0, is within striking distance of the leaders (only 12 points out of first). Morell is having his best start ever in the GCCGL at 2-1 averaging 6.5 points. His overall point total of 19.5 is currently atop the points standings and Meat has 1 low net to add to his early season accomplishments. As we all know, we play the back of the Willows in week 5 and this course can wreak havoc on anyone’s game.
GLOSSY PREDICTION – I tried looking up some stats on how these two historically shoot on the Willows back, but since my access to the handicap system has been revoked, I couldn’t find anything. Joe only gets one stroke tonight and that comes on hole 10. If Mike does lose that hole, he has plenty of time to make it up. Looking back a current year scores, Joe has shot a net 42, 40 and 34; Mike has shot a net 35, 37, 35. I think Morrel is playing better as of Week 5. Meat wins 6-4.
THE KREYLING KORNER
This week golf.com had an article about the worst feelings in golf (you can read it HERE). I thought I’d summarize some of the better ones and determine which members in the GCCGL that would generally agree.
Toping a drive.
This feeling does suck. First off, you most likely feel like you took the same swing you have all day. But, for some reason, this one didn’t get past the red tees. Second, you still have 325 yards to make par…good luck.
Most likely to feel this way in the GCCGL: Danny Roller, Troy Bachmann, Mike Ethridge, Oliver Livermore (pre-grunt), Serkan Freeman
17 good holes +1 blow-up hole.
The old Joe Eiser – “I played really well tonight, except I had a double on 4 and a triple on 6.” I constantly give Joe crap about this, but it really is a bad feeling. No one can understand how most golfers play below their handicap on 6 holes and like they just picked up a club on the other 3.
Most likely to feel this way in the GCCGL: Joe Eiser, Mike Harris, Bill Nixon, Mike Morell, Joe Cook
3-putting from 10 feet
We’ve all done it. The complete opposite feeling of this is having a 10-foot putt for birdie. You’re on top of the world until minutes later you’re walking off the green with a bogey.
Most likely to feel this way in the GCCGL: Jason Nill, Pete Goldenberg, Nick Duer, Brian Roddy, Jeff Capannari
Kicking sand off your club and accidentally hitting your ankle.
Easily the worst feeling in the world. For any of you dumb enough to do this, your ankle will hurt the rest of the round. In my experience, this tends to happen with a putter more than using a wedge to get sand off your shoes.
Most likely to feel this way in the GCCGL: George Almeida, Kurt Kreyling, Andy Crowe, John Rayburn, Matt Bedell
Getting your round rained out.
What kind of amateurs filled out this survey? Obviously, the don’t play in this league.
Most likely to feel this way in the GCCGL: NO ONE!
Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
