Kreyling Korner – Week 20 – August 31, 2023

THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen – Winkler takes the L in week 19 and the overall MOW record ends at 6-5.  The 2023 season marks the first time ever old Lip-Gloss had a winning record in the MOW.  I will use that as an excuse to have an extra beer tonight to celebrate.

Before we close the door on the MOW for 2023, I have to mention the whining from Winkler after last week’s round.  Not only did Jason lose, he got whooped 2-8.    Naturally, he blamed me saying the pressure was too high and that I jinxed him.  Winkler, I’m going to say the same thing to you I said to Cletus when he complained about being in the MOW – PLAY!  BETTER!

Kreyling Korner

You guys remember when PW used to recap the events of the GCCGL?  The post before the last week of the season used to be one of my favorites.  He used to give props to people that won individual awards.  And he used to do a really good recap of the top teams standings heading into the final scramble.  I missed these posts so much I went back into the archives to see the LAST time he did this.  Week #17 of 2020!  That’s right, way back when we were wearing masks, not hitting out of bunkers and counting putts as good if they hit the flat stick.  That’s a long time ago.  In an effort to somewhat relive those glory days, this week’s Kreyling Korner is going to summarize where things stand in the 2023 season. #georgesucks

Championship Race

The fat lady hasn’t exactly sung, but she might as well start when the Crowe Dog Millionaire’s tee off, and continue signing, until the Return of Cletus tap in their last putt on 18.  Heading into week 20, ROTC has a 19 point lead over the second place team, Go Putt Yourself.  GPY barely has a shot.  After that, NO ONE has a shot.  Mathematically, GPY could hoist the championship trophy if they win the final scramble and ROTC finishes 5th or 6th.  The chances of that are unlikely, but blog jinxes have happened in the past…

If ROTC avoids the choke of the century, it will be Roller and Bloomhuff’s 5th championship and Roddy and Welling’s 1st championship.  Congrats to all…if you don’t screw it up!

The next most interesting race is between Meat-Balls and Dude, Where’s My Par.  Currently, Meat-Balls sits in third place with 361 points.  Dude Where’s My Par is right behind them with 359.  The final results of tonight’s scramble will determine who comes in third and in the money.  I know It’s not a MOW, but my money is on DWMP.

The battle for the toilet bowl is between Courtesy Tap-Ins (347 points) and Crowe Dog Millionaire’s (339).  Actually, it’s not much of a race.  I doubt CDM make up the 8 points, but the beers in our group will be flowing and the music will be loud.

Most Valuable Player

The votes are in and this year’s Most Valuable Player is Danny “Snoodles” Roller.  Dany was 7-5-1 on the season amassing 70 points (6th in the league) and a winning percentage of 57.7% (8th in the league).  Danny beat out some strong contenders.  Among them: George Wellling (ROTC), 8-6, 74.5 points (5th) and a 57.1% win percentage; Oliver “Ollie” Livermore (GPY), 10-5, 81.5 points (1st) and a 66.7% win percentage (3rd); Pete “Goldie” Goldenberg (GPY), 8-4-2, 78 points (2nd) and a 64.3% win percentage (5th).

Ultimately, Danny’s leadership of Return of the Cletus to the championship (if they don’t choke) is the reason for his MVP trophy!  He’s also played in the front groups a lot and bought lots of beer for the league.  That is the true MVP effort!  Congrats Danny!
