Kreyling Korner – Week #2 – April 28, 2022
The GCCGL is under way as week 1 and the Flo-Rida Scramble are officially in the books. T4DOTA took the early season lead, but both BR and KM have positioned themselves well within striking distance for the next 19 weeks. Long season and the bottom 3 are certainly not out of it! Let’s start MOWing.
THE LIPSMACKER MATCH OF THE WEEK
Week 2 MOW – Pete “Goldie” Goldenberg vs. Danny “Snoodles” Roller
Two heavy hitters and league legends lock horns in week 1. Lots of offseason discussion has surrounded Roller, specifically his performance with the big dog. Apparently, Snoodles is flat smoking his driver. If Danny gets consistency with his driver coupled with his borderline sub-human putting…it’s going to be a long season for all his opponents. Pete is the Justin Rose of the GCCL. A model of consistency week in and week out due to his relentless weekend play. Sure, maybe he goes through stretches of rough play (2021 being an example) but this man is certainly never out. History is also on his side with an overall 10-4 record over Danny.
GLOSSY PREDICTION – Roller gets a stroke today which could be huge in a match like this one. Having not seen either of these two play in 2022, I’m truly taking a shot in the dark here. Wiser men then me have said history repeats itself, so I’m going with Pete’s 71% win percentage. Goldie wins 5.5 to 4.5
THE KREYLING KORNER
Tee Times
Quick note on tee times. I’m not asking everyone for preferred tee times this year or matching pairings with teammates. Why? Because week in and week out I’m getting more requests for late tee times. This week is a prime example. The last three tee times are made up solely of people needing late times because of work. What I’m trying to say – be flexible bros and broette. You’re probably going to be asked to play in earlier tee times this year, even if that’s not your preference. Sit back, relax, sip a beer and enjoy sneaking out of work a little earlier to play golf. #itcouldbeworse
Ollie Gonna Ollie
After looking at the results for the Flo-Rida Scramble, I was originally surprised by the score from FWM. The GCCGL thought highly of this team voting them to finish second place. Then I heard the chatter. Ollie playing from the back tees? He pulled the same crap last year. He only played the up tees in 2021 after Cupcake and I yelled at him for a solid 20 minutes about how dumb he would be to play the back tees. Apparently, Roller and Rayburn didn’t have that fight in them this year…and I don’t blame them. For perspective Ollie – here is your record the last three seasons: 2021: 7-7-1 (senior tees), 2020: 5-9-0 (back tees), 2019: 5-8-2 (back tees). As Forrest says – “stupid is as stupid does.” #gumpforpres
Scottie Sheffler
The 2022 Masters champion has a swing that looks more like it’s from the GCCGL than the PGA tour. Big Scottie Fan here. The guy hits bombs and plays golf with the Zen of a Jedi master. Crowe – heed this advice: play like Scotte in 22. #playlikescottiein22
Season Award Predictions
Comeback Player of the Year – Pete “Goldie” Goldenberg. Pete went 2-6-4 in 2021 and that ain’t happening again in 2022. Take it to the bank. Bet the house on it. I’d easily wager….$5.
GCCGL League Impact Award – Nick Duer immediately heightened GCCGL league awareness with the creation of the Twitter account @TheRealPalominoNick. At the time of this blog, Nick has shined a spotlight on the GCCGL to 7 Followers. #mightnotbenick
2022 League Effect Award – Just like the coveted Rooke of the Year award. Except, it’s not. This award is given to the rookie that appears to have all the attributes of success, but just can’t get it done on Thursday nights. If you are new to the league – trust me – it’s a thing. Hate to do this…and I hope I’m reverse jinxing him…but I think this award goes to my teammate – Ryan McCrone. A little tidbit about McCroone – he has an android phone. Which means our team group text chain is green and I can’t put our cool Booze Rattlers logo on it. Still pissed about that. #provemewrongMcCrone
90s Rap Song of the Week
Party Ain’t a Party – Queen Pen. Released in 1997 this Party Anthem is still a banger. Random? Hell yes it is. I’m telling you – blast this on the first tee tonight and the entire GCCGL will be bopping their heads and chugging beers. Good vibes = good rounds. #ilovethe90s
Until next week – fairways and greens my friends.
