Cletus Goes Ape
Week 8- June 17th, 2010 Update
It was a hot one once again but we had good attendance (17 of 20) golfers braved the heat and the Willows back nine. Not much to talk about this week. For the most part the scores were much better than the first time around on this tough back nine course. Big Mike Harris had the low score of the week posting a gross score of 40 which I happen to think is a fine score on that course. He’ll tell you different. Speaking of Big Mike, the GCCGL commissioners’ office bring you a new segment called Harris vs. The League. This is where we compare Big Mike’s score each week and compare it to everyone else’s scorecard to see who would win the match. This goes back to the argument that all players should play each other A,B, C or D. We thought it might be fun to track these numbers for the rest of this season in order to prove that the handicap system DOES work or will the more consistent A player feast on the inconsistent C/D play. On week 8 Big Mike Harris went 8 – 2 vs. the C/D group. Click HERE for the hole-by-hole details.
We almost had our first golf fight/brawl in GCCGL history. Apparently, a twosome playing behind our league got a little impatient and decided they’d play through without even asking whether they can play through. First of all, NO ONE plays through during league play, I DON”T CARE HOW SLOW play is. Not sure what they were thinking but I’m starting to wonder about the quality of clientele on the golf courses at Kenton this year. Anyway, Cletus sees these clowns pass his group and try to get in front of them and GOES APE! Cletus happens to be in the same group as Big Mike who let’s face it, if you’re going to get into a scrap, you wouldn’t mind having Harris on your side. Cletus gets in his cart and races to the twosome without Harris! Of course one of them is about the size of Harris. Cletus begins yelling at the twosome which leads to one of the guys confronting him. Of course it happens to be the big guy, we’ll call him Bozo. Cletus and Bozo start yelling at each other nose to nose, of course Bozo had to practically get on his knees to go face to face with Cletus. I was told they looked like a manager and umpire arguing a bad call. Cletus stays his ground and Bozo eventually leaves. I’m proud of you Cletus…..
We had our first bunker gallery shot if there is such a thing. Cletus, fresh off his confrontation with Big Foot, hit his approach shot long into the bunker prompting a very unorganized gallery to form around him. Here are some pics.
Photos by GB.The schedule is set. Check out the new poll question. We finish play on the Willows back nine this week. We look forward to seeing you on the golf course. Good luck to all and as always……hit ’em straight!
The big winner this week were was ABB who took 22.5 points! The standing are pretty tight between 2nd and 5th place. KBSOB are starting to pull away a bit as they continue their torrid pace. The winners of the low net were Nick Duer (A/B) with a low net of 36 and Brian Lonneman (C/D) with a low net of 36! Great rounds gentlemen.
We have our second scramble of the year this week. Please try to make it or get a sub. Please see the substitution rules for Scrambles. We are officially half way through the season after this week if you can believe that.
