2015 – Week 11
Once again, the weather did not look promising, especially in the Independence, KY area. Apparently the area around the course had just gotten dumped on by an isolated storm cloud. Between all the rains the last few days and a last minute popup shower, the course was soaked! However, we not only got the full round in but there wasn’t as much as a drop of rain all night. For the second straight week, the GCCGL failed to hit 100% attendance as 22 of 24 golfers showed up. It could have been worse if not for Tucker, Turnwald and Dominik filling in as subs. Thanks guys and girl!
The night started out with one of the starters popping out of nowhere to scold me for taking my cart on the rough on hole #10. The ironic part of this was that my drive was smack down the left side of the fairway. Ollie asked for some help to look for his ball and I obliged without thinking about it. Damn you Ollie! Look for your own ball next time! Between the muddy conditions, the golf police deploying drones to enforce the cart rules and the group of hicks adjacent to us playing Fox Run blaring country music all night, it was a bit stressful. What is it about country music that wants me to blow my brains out? I’m not kidding, who the hell could relax out there? Add in the constant bickering between Ollie and Radio arguing about who’s laying what and miscalculating each other’s scores, I was about ready to start pulling the hair out my arms, legs, back, nose and ears! I instinctively went for my head but I grabbed a fist full of scalp! Seriously, where is it written in the Book of Life that all men approaching 50 years old must turn into a Chia Pet?
If I offended any hairy 50+ year old country music lovers, then too bad. I have bupkis to blog about and I’m running out of material. If this trend continues, it’s only going to get worse. I’m tired, my lower back is killing me, I’m on this crazy protein diet, my team was mathematically eliminated on week 1, I lost a ball on #16 that was no more than 2 feet from the cart path most likely because it plugged in a puddle of mud created by some idiot riding their cart on the rough! I have yet to take any vacation time this year and the 2015 season of Game of Thrones is over! Right now I feel like Clark Griswold in the movie Christmas Vacation when he received a membership to the “Jelly of the Month” club in lieu of his yearly bonus check.
Let’s give it up to the GCCGL’s Department of Statistics who has come up with another creative stat appropriately name the CCA (Cup Cake Algorithm). This algorithm encompasses a wildly complex set of formulas which incorporate all past match play scores on all GCCGL courses and predicts the likely outcome of future matches. The CCA correctly predicted all the winners in week 11 (a perfect 6 – 0)! Not only that, but it also accurately predicted the team match play scores in 2 of the 3 team matches. Not bad at all.
Despite the awful conditions out there, the scores on the back nine of the Willows have significantly improved from the last time we played this nine. Is it because we have 11 weeks under our belt or perhaps we have several “mudders” who like the slop? Whatever the reason, it looks like the quality of golf this league is churning out this summer continues to develop nicely.
Speaking of predictions, Kreying Korner’s MOW predictions were right on the money. LG correctly projected the match between PW and Dominik right down to the score and also called it correctly for J.J and Snoodles, although the score was a little off. Looks like the MOW jinx is wearing off as we wind down towards the dog days of the GCCGL schedule.
Big news! We have a new leader in the standings! The Offensive Line beat Roller and Duer Again (22 -18) thus taking over 1st place. They were led by J.J. who “snoodled” Snoodles for 7 points. Meanwhile the Massholes defeated The Big Bang Theory (22.5 – 17.5) and have inched within 2.5 points of 4th place. They were led by Gordon and PW who both grabbed 6 points each. Finally, the last place Back in Black soundly defeated Daddy Day Care (23 – 17) who continue to slide in the wrong direction. BIB were led by The Legend who pounded out 8 points. With two more scrambles and the Battle Golf event still looming, there’s plenty of opportunity to shake this thing up.
Due to threatening clouds after the round last week, everyone congregated at the back porch of the clubhouse with several pitchers of cold libations. Most of us iin attendance stayed until they closed shop. It brought back memories of the old days before going to BW’s was a thing. The low net winners were Bleaker (A/B) with a net 32 (against LG) and Gordon (C/D) with a low net 33 (against the card). Congratulations to the winners! We continue match play on the back nine of the Willows. We hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ‘em straight!
