2023 – Week 4

PW didn’t make it to the golf course again this week. I guess KK was right, PW is going to miss 4 of the first 5 weeks of the 2023 GCCGL season. That’s pretty pathetic. Even I can admit that. I’m sure Lip Gloss is foaming at the mouth to destroy PW in his next Kreyling Korner, so I’ll beat him to the punch for two reasons (1) it will piss him off and (2) it will force him to come up with new material for Kreyling Korner.

PW’s excuse this week was that I had to take care of my pool before leaving for vacation. Now that I type it, it’s laugh-out-loud pitiful! Really George? That’s the best you can do? I don’t know what to tell you other than, I panicked! I’m a smart, well-educated man of the technical community and the best I can come up with is “I have to clean my pool?” Holy shit! But in my defense, I’m running out of excuses. It was so lame that I said to myself, “Damn, CC and KK are never going to believe this load of crap, I need to make this more convincing“. So I took a picture of the pool to show them how cloudy it was. BIG MISTAKE! As I’m taking the pictures, I’m realizing that the pool actually looks OK. I mean, it’s not so bad that I had to miss golf, right? This is a nightmare! So there I am, on my deck, taking picture after picture at all different angles, looking for the worst possible shading effect to make the pool look worse than it actually is, all the while I see my wife inside the house, talking to someone on the phone, (I naturally assumed it was a divorce lawyer) and looking at me like I’ve completely lost my mind. After about 30 pictures, I finally settle on this one and emailed it to them.

I knew I should have gone with my first excuse, “Marie packed all my cargo shorts and I have nothing to wear“. Yes….YES….THAT’S what I should have gone with!

Sorry to steal your thunder Lip Gloss (no I’m not).

It was Pot Luck week this week which means that the handicap system is the main topic of conversation. The handicap system is the great equalizer. There’s no question. Let’s face it, without the golf handicap system, there would be no GCCGL. It has been a long time since I’ve mentioned my theory on the handicap system and socialism, but since we have so many new members, I thought I’d bring it up again. For those of you are GCCGL veterans, you know that the handicap system has been a contentious source of discussion for many, many years. Back during the election year in 2012, there was a lot of political talk about socialism and all that stuff. It got me thinking about how the handicap system is a lot like Socialism so I wrote a blurb about it back in August 2012. Here it is for you new members.

If you think about it, the handicap system, in of itself, is not much different from socialism. Just play along for a moment. The playing field is evened by taking strokes (money) away from the skilled players (the rich) and giving it to the lowly (C/D) players (the poor). This outrages the (A/B) players (the rich) because they’ve worked hard (at the practice range) all their lives and shouldn’t be penalized for being successful (low handicappers). The (C/D) players on the other hand love the system since they don’t have to work (practice) to improve their game (increase their wealth). They are perfectly content with accepting strokes from the skilled players (redistribution of wealth). I don’t see a difference, do you?

Speaking of handicaps, I’d be remise if I didn’t at least mention the Danny “Snoodles” Roller match with Toby Grainger. Danny was giving Toby a whopping 29 strokes (over 3 strokes per hole). That is almost incomprehensible. However, if we ever needed proof that the USGA Handicap System works, just look to this match. Snoodles took the match (5.5 – 4.5) only because Snoodles beat him by 1 stroke on low net. So, the next time YOU feel compelled to complain about your handicap…….DON’T.

Finally, we are looking for a guest blogger for next week’s GCCGL blog update. Any takers? Honestly, I normally would not have blogged the day before leaving for vacation because as I stated before, there’s so much to do. However, this should serve as a reminder to everyone that PW is dedicated to providing you the best possible entertainment for your money. So let this be a lesson to you Kreyling, instead of bashing PW in your weekly Kreyling Korner, you should be kissing my stinky, abnormally small, feet.

The big winners this week were Courtesy Tap-Ins who snagged (27.5 points). They were led by their subs once again and especially Big Donkey who took 8.5 points in a late substitution. CTI moved up from last place to 3rd place in one week. That’s how quickly things can change in the GCCGL. Crowe Dog Millionaires and Dude, Where’s my Par? both nabbed 22.5 points each. They were led by Syndrome (7 pts) and The Politician (9 pts) respectively. The low-net winners were Bedell (A/B) with a low net 32 and Tally/Winkler (C/D) with a low net 36. Great rounds gentlemen.  Congratulations! We continue match play with a twist. It is still match play this week. We hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ’em straight!
