2023 Draft
Welcome to the 2023 GCCGL season! I know I know, things are getting out later than normal this year and the natives are getting restless. I accept full responsibility for this delay as I have been busy getting married, buying a house and starting a new job. Those are all excuses, and all of you are going to tell me to get my priorities in order, which I completely agree with.
The other thing the GCCGL members will be pissed about is the draft NOT being live this year. We tried on this one, but there really wasn’t a good day for all the B players to meet, except the one week I couldn’t make it, or have the draft order ready in time. The live draft last year was a blast and doing it online this year is not ideal. I would look at this year’s online draft to be the “exception” versus the norm going forward. All that being said, I’m sure their will be a crew (you know who you are) that will start saying this league sucks and “we are going to start our own like the LIV league”….blah blah blah. To those of you in this camp, all I can say is – my bad. I’ll try to get everything organized sooner next year.
Two things I wanted to mention here before I get to the draft:
1 – The league has spoken. Effective in the 2023 season, Battle Golf will no longer be an event in the GCCGL. I hope this appeases you golf purists out there. Interesting thought – those so opposed to battle golf because it’s not “real golf” happen to I find that the purists are also the biggest “fluffers.” #talkamongstyourselves
2 – The GCCGL has designated George “the Portuguese Warrior” Almeida as Weather Czar. If we happen to have inclement weather on Thursday’s during the 2023 season, George will determine if league play is canceled in that given week and will post this announcement on the blog. If individuals choose to show up and play after the cancellation, none of the scores / points will count. The play will be for practice/fun only. That being said, if anyone has problems with the determination of playing or not playing due to weather – your frustrations can be directed directly at George. Cupcake and myself will no longer be held responsible. #thisisstupidkurt
Hopefully the two points above alleviate some of the pain due to the lack of a live draft. But, knowing this league, most likely not.
Now the moment everyone has been waiting for. The B players are drafting this year, and the order is below. Note the B players have changed a bit in 2023 given we have 5 new full time members. Crowe – you are officially a B player.

The draft will be on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 8:15 AM all via email (old school). Since Crowe has the first pic of the litter, I will shoot him an email at 8:15 AM getting his fist pick. We will then move through the list until all GCCGL members have a team.
Below are some initial draft stats to get everyone familiar with the 2023 GCCGL members. Obviously, everyone will want to do deeper analysis to determine who is a good “fit” on their team. Or you can take the strategy I did last year – who fits your team’s beer drinking style. It won me my first championship.
