2019 – Week 18
Please note that this will possibly be my last blog of the season as I may not get an opportunity to post after next Thursday. There is a slight chance I might be able to post the season ending blog but we’ll have to see. So once again, I’m looking for guest bloggers for next week and quite possibly week 20. Let the commissioner’s office know if you are interested.
You have no idea how happy I am to be writing this blog right now because it means I don’t have to look at that Vegas Johnny clone any more. That was hard to stomach. Speaking of Vegas Johnny, the final chapter of the Vegas Diaries has been posted. You should take a LOOK. It’s hard to believe but we have only two weeks left in the season. It’s been a tough season for the GCCGL from an injuries standpoint. Take a look at the laundry list of injuries/aliments below:
Member | Injury | Status | Notes |
Lipgloss | Torn hamstring | Out | Recovering after emergency surgery |
Kenny G | Torn meniscus | Out | Blew out his knee half way through the round on week 18 |
El Jefe | MIA | Lost | Paid $60 to play two weeks. The GCCGL is THAT good! |
Potter | Hernia | Active | Postponed hernia surgery for after the season |
Captain Obvious | CPT | Active | Cut Pony Tail and lost his 2018 GCCGL mojo averging 4.5 pts compared to 6.3 last season |
We had some decent weather this week despite the morning storms. Cudos to LG for the lineup and order this past week. If he would have placed the last group of PW, Leininger, Cap and Teen Wolf in the first group, we’d still be playing! But I’m going to go out on a limb here and state that I don’t think we were slow, even though we finished 35 minutes behing the fourth group. We were deliberately taking our time, enjoying the nature. We saw some deer on #15 and played the “Who can come closest to hitting the deer with the golf ball” game. Leininger won. It was fun. We listened to Leininger’s classic 70’s playlist and tapped our feet and bobbed our heads as we took our time soaking in the little time we have left of the 2019 GCCGL season. No one ever wants this league to end anyway so what’s the rush?
Overall, the back nine of the Willows didn’t completely obliterate people’s games this past week. Half the leage finished par or under and half the league didn’t. I was in the latter half in case you were wondering. I’m sure most of you heard that super sub Kenny G blew out his knee half way through the round. That is very sad to hear. I like Ken. He’s one of my favorite subs to play with even when he’s abusing me like an economy rental car, hitting 7 out of 9 greens and taking low net. Nothing wrong the knee that night huh KG? Nope. The guy was doing back flips after birdie-ing Pioneer #11 when he plays me and getting carried off the golf course by Gobstopper on piggyback when he plays Bachmann. Go figure.
In other news, team I’d Tap That seems to have Tapped Out (see what I did there?) after getting crushed this week. I think they miss their leader, their rock, their “glue”. I’m talking about Captain Obvious. His points production is way down after a stellar year last season and it has most definitely affected this team. Oh yea, they might miss LG a little too. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention another Low Net win from Swiper. That is his fourth LN win of the season and yet his handicap didn’t move. Guess who plays him next week. Look, I like the kid. I don’t care that he steals other players balls. But let’s be honest here, at worst, Swiper’s HC should be a 20 give or take a stroke. It is almost impossible to beat this kid with a 24 HC. How his handicap didn’t go down, not even a stroke, after scoring a net 32 last week is anyone’s guess. I can’t figure out this whole handicap calculation thing. It’s way to complex for my little pee brain. I’ll show up next week. I’ll give him a stroke a hole and depending on how things are going mid-way through the round, we may or may not have another player being carried off the golf course.
The low net winners were The Senator and Meat (A/B) with a low net 33 and Swiper (again) with a low net 32. Congratulations to the winners! We continue on the back of Willows for the last match play event of the season. We hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ‘em straight!
