2019 – Week 16
It was a jammed pack week for the GCCGL so let’s get right to it. As all of you know by now, a group of GCCGL members headed off to Vegas this week (Potter, Snoodles, Big Donkey, Syndrome). You can read all about it in the Vegas Diaries. Don’t forget to check out the Vegas Photo Album.
The GCCGL officially announced the following. Lip Gloss, the A Player for team I’d Tap That has suffered a season ending injury. Below is the official statement released by the GCCGL press:
A player, Kurt “LipGloss” Kreyling has suffered a season ending injury and will have surgery to repair a torn hamstring on Monday morning. When reached for comment, Lipgloss had this to say as he fought back tears.
“First, I’d like to thank God. I am truly blessed to play this game at the level I have in 2019. Second, I’d like to thank my teammates. Without these guys we wouldn’t be where we are and fighting tooth and nail for a championship. I’m proud of the work my brothers and I have done and I’m extremely confident they will finish the season off in championship form. Lastly, I want to thank the team of doctors I have around me. Thanks to them I will be in a position to return to the course in 2020 and try to compete to give whatever team I’m drafted to a chance to win a championship.”
The GCCGL commissioner’s office has released its own statement.
It is with deep sorry that co-commissioner Lipgloss will miss the rest of the season. Make no mistake, this is a big blow to I’d Tap That. He was, without question, the glue that has kept that team in the race. Fellow teammate and co-commissioner Cupcake had this to say.
“Good riddance! We’re better off without him. He was slowing us down. I mean, if he really cared about this team and winning a championship, what the hell is he doing on a surf board anyway? I can speak for my teammates when I say, I’m the one carrying this team. Sure, LG has put up slightly better stats this season but it’s the intangibles that win championships. We have Brian “Scratch” Turnwald on retainer. We have him locked up to only sub for us and no one else. He’s a major upgrade. If he can’t make it, then we have a few other ringers up our sleeves. Don’t forget, I was voted “most-trusted” co-commissioner in this league. I can do anything I want and get away with it. All of this is off the record, right?”
On a personal note, I played with Lipgloss this past week and I have to say, I whole-heartedly disagree with Cupcake. LG was unable to put any weight on that left leg and had no choice but to modify his golf stance significantly. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to snap any pics or videos, but I will say this, he was hitting lasers straight and long all night long despite the injury. If not for one or two bad breaks where he had to hit out of the sand or off a major slope, he would have broken 40. That’s incredible considering he’s having emergency surgery in a couple of days. I know LG gets a bad rap for being a premaddona. And yes, it’s true that he embraces his metrosexual lifestyle, but he showed me something this week. He led his team in points this week on one leg. We’ll miss you Lipgloss. Take care of that leg and we’ll see you on the course next season.
The big winners this week were Not So Perfect Attendance (27 pts). They were led by super-sub Junker who nabbed 9 points. This team has barely fielded their original team all season. It’s been a revolving door of subs and permanent subs all season. It is the reason they are in this race. Finishing behind them were the Bermuda Knights with (25 points). They were led by Han Solo who took 8.5 points. If there was ever a team who needed a win, it’s these guys. They are fighting to stay out of the cellar, that is basically all that is left for them as they are pretty much mathematically eliminated from contention. The low net winners were The Senator (A/B) with a low net 29 and Han Solo (C/D) with a low net of 27. Congratulations on fantastic rounds!
We continue match play on the Willow front this week. If you can’t make it, please give one of our subs a chance to play. We hope to see you on the course and as always, hit ‘em straight!
