2019 Vegas Diaries #1.5
Angry Old Man

Angry old man rant time (isn’t pretty much everything that comes out of my mouth an angry old
man rant?)
I remember air travel before deregulation. You millennials can look it up but experientially,
planes were about half full but fares were expensive and planes generally ran less frequently
but on time. I think I prefer that to the current situation. To wit: our flight from Chicago to
Vegas was delayed, allegedly because of weather. But Vegas is 4 hours of flight time away so
won’t the weather clear by the time we get there? So, the morons at Southwest decided to add
fuel in case we had to divert or circle. But more fuel means less passengers. So, they started
the process of deciding who would get kicked off. Then the lights finally came on and they
realized the weather would in fact clear so now they had to remove the excess fuel. Long story
short, in the old days, the plane would already be half full so adding fuel not a problem. We
could have left only marginally late and not removed some of the baggage…like golf clubs.
