2013 – Week 8
Another great evening on the course. The rain/thunderstorms hit early in the morning and opened up the evening for some perfect golfing weather. We had a perfect turnout this week (24 of 24 golfers). Thanks to the subs who came out, Seiter, Lickert, Bleeker, Glaser, Berkley and Dominik.
Since The Commish is out this week and not available to review/approve this prior to posting I figured I should just start off with his disclaimer from last week:

Oh that Cletus!
It seems this will be a weekly section of the blog… As my group was walking off of the 9th green to calcuate our scores for the round a small skirmish broke out of the crowd and you’ll never guess who was involved…. That’s right, the old man was once again picking a fight with someone much younger and stronger, the leagues very own Moon Boy. Similar to last week’s incident where a golf ball was thrown at Cletus’ “manhood”, this one started with a golf club aimed at the same region. There was some shoving back and forth some, oohs and ahhs from the crowd, and then in a complete fit of rage Cletus grabbed the offending golf club and snapped it in half! That’s right, he snapped Moon Boy’s wedge in half like Bo Jackson breaking a bat over his knee after striking out. Where is all of this rage coming from? I’m not sure, but as a warning to all GCCGL members and subs out there, don’t mess with The Cletus!!
Slam Dunk
As we were waiting on the 2nd tee box to tee off, the first group was up around the 4th green with the Golf Angel standing over a 10ft chip to the green. I personally did not witness the event, but as Cousin Joe described it, “I’ve never seen anything like that”… The Golf Angel “swished” a chip shot. It didn’t roll, it didn’t bounce, it went right in the cup and stuck! Great shot!!
Other News
In exchange for being a guest columnist in the blog this week, Syndrome was given the coveted first tee time of the evening. I sent him an email last night asking for his blog and never got a response. At around 11:30 this morning I finally get an email with the subject of “Blog” which contained 3 bullet points with about 3 words in each bullet. Thanks Syndrome, that was a great help, I hope you enjoy that not-so-coveted last tee time the remainder of the season!!
Eiser, in an attempt to intimidate the most feared sub in the GCCGL, Lickert, brought Das Boot out of retirement. However, instead of wearing the contraption he walked around the course all night with it strapped to his bag like some sort of hood ornament. Needless to say it didn’t work as his opponent shot 1 under par, GROSS!!!! Nice round Danielle!!
As we hit the half-way point of the season and with less than 10 points separating the 1st and 5th place teams, trade rumors are starting to spread in the GCC hallways. If your performance is somewhat lacking you better start hitting the range or the next thing you know your “teammates” will be trading you for a case of beer, or even worse, 2 cases of PBR.
Results
This week we moved to the front 9 of the Pioneer. With 6 of the first 7 weeks on the Willows this was a nice change and generated some ridiculously low rounds across the board. We had almost 70% of the league shooting under par last night with 2 net scores under 30.
We had some great matches this week. The (formerly) first place #teamname squared off against the (formerly) second place Who’s Your Caddie and didn’t fare so well getting only 17 points and forcing them out of first place by 3 points. Slicer’s Not Hooker’s took advantage of Moore’s Misfits while grabbing 22 points and Free Pork Sandwich eeked out a win over the last place Tiagra Woods grabbing 21 points.
Winners of the low net were Bleeker and Carrier (we need a nickname here) both shooting a low net of 29. Originally Bleeker and Lickert would have split the A/B low net, but with the Cletus handicap adjusting system in place, Lickert’s handicap dropped from a 5 to a 3 for last night’s round. It’s not everyday you shoot 1 under par and don’t win the low net money….
That’s all for now, and in honor of The Commish, we hope to see you on the golf course and as always, hit ’em straight!
